CHAPTER V

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The summary of findings, conclusions, and recommendations drawn from the

results obtained are presented in this chapter.

Summary of Findings

1. The respondents show fair on overall writing performance on the pre-course test

with a mean score of 21.9688. They are good in sentence structure as shown in

the mean score of 6.5313, fair on grammar (5.7188), spelling (5.0313) and

vocabulary (4.6875).

2. On the post-course test, the respondents got the mean score of 23.7500 for the

overall writing performance which is still fair. They are good in sentence structure

(6.9688) and grammar (6.5938) and are fair in both the spelling and vocabulary

with the mean score of 5.4375 and 4.7500 respectively.

3. There is a significant relationship on extensive reading and the writing

performance of the AB in English Language third year students.

Conclusions
1. The third year AB in English Language students are fair in grammar, spelling and

vocabulary and are good in sentence structure in the pre course test.

2. The respondents showed progress in grammar from being fair to good in the post

course test.

3. Extensive reading will make a significant effect on the writing performance of the

third year AB in English Language students.

Recommendations

1. Since the AB in English Language students is fair in grammar, spelling and

vocabulary, teachers should promote extensive reading for the students that may

benefit to their writing performance. Moreover, teachers should provide a wide

range of reading materials that would cater their comprehensiveness.

2. Since the result showed progress of the respondents in the post-course test,

teachers should give emphasis on Extensive reading so as to let the students be

motivated and have broader knowledge on each category.

3. Given that the effect of the relationship is significant, teachers should be open to

the students’ area of competitiveness especially in reading needs and mental

capacities that would cater their ideas. Extensive reading should be employed for
a longer period of time so as to assure the full improvement in the writing

performance. Students must be given the freedom to choose on what to read for

them have more scope for following their own interests. This in turn reduces

teacher control and further encourages learning to occur outside class.
