TECHNOLOGY STANDARD 6 – Telecommunications and Information Access: The

competent teacher will use telecommunications and information-access resources to

support instruction.

1. Write a paragraph explaining your knowledge and understanding of the standard—put the

standard into your own words.

Teachers need to be aware of ways to differ their students’ learning experiences. The

standard helps teachers to seek out information and resources that they can use to keep the

interest of their students. With a society so dependant and surrounded by technology, teachers

need to know how to relate to their students by using appropriate technology. This will allow the

students to be more involved and interested in the lesson enhancing the whole learning

experience.

2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application of the

standard.

The artifact I chose is a bibliography of web resources for a 5th grade language arts teacher. The

list is comprised of websites that have useful tips, games, and lessons for teachers to use in

teaching grammar. The websites were all examined carefully and labeled with helpful

information so teachers can easily find what they are looking for. This is a great way to be

organized especially about computer time but allows for parents to have an approved and

recommended list of websites for their children at home.

the future to further meet the standard.

your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.

The list gives me resources that I can refer to in an instant instead of having to search for

websites. Being a teacher means you need to be organized and every second you have counts.

So this bibliography helps save time which can be reverted back to the students. I think this will

change my teaching in the future because I will make this preparation for every subject and

different projects or topics to save time in the classroom. I think also having this list of resources

is helpful to give to the parents so they know good quality learning websites their children can

explore at home.

4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and Learn in a

Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.

Creating this bibliography is not only about finding subjects but also can give aide or

recourses for ESL students. With such an increasingly diverse society, teachers are going to

encounter students whose first language is not English. For those students a resource list like

this can be helpful for them and their parents. It can be websites and resources that use both their

native language and English, helping them understand and continue learning even if at home.

The resource list also reminds me that not every student is going to have the internet at home so

their only time on the internet is at school. Therefore it is important for me to be prepared to

give those students access to the best learning tools on the internet that I can. I want them to use

their time wisely and look at things that are good for them. It also saves time on them trying to

figure out how to find websites or finding the website so they have more time to enjoy the site

and more time learning about the internet and computer.
