The Albany County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Janet A.


Sharpley, age 61, of 628 State Route 143, in the Town of Westerlo for
Animal Cruelty. The complaint alleges on April 18th members of the Albany
County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the Sharpley residence
in the Town of Westerlo. The Sheriff’s Office seized 42 felines from the
residence with the assistance of the Hudson-Mohawk Humane Society. All
of the animals seized were examined and treated by Veterinarian staff at
the humane society. Of the 42 felines, 18 were so maimed, diseased,
disabled or infirm that required them to be euthanized to be spared further
suffering.

Sharpley was arrested this morning on 18 counts of animal cruelty


charges, Article 26 section 353 of the Agriculture & Markets Law all of
which are Misdemeanors. Sharpley was arraigned in the Town of Westerlo
Court by the Honorable Town Justice Kenneth Mackey and bail was set at
$3000.00.

The ages of the cats euthanized ranged from 2 to 8 years old. The
other 24 cats are available for adoption at the Hudson-Mohawk Humane
Society in Menands.

Sharpley did post the $3,000.00 bail.
