Ad Analysis Assignment (Individual)

You will submit two different ads (**glued/taped onto looseleaf) with a paragraph analysis
of each one (*submit planning also).

You should have examined the following:


- What product or service is being advertised?
- What is the target market? Give a reason.

- What is the message given? Indicate what clues in the ad help determine this
message (image, expressions, slogan, copy, etc.)
- Is the
message
implicit or
explicit? Give
a reason.

- Indicate what persuasive techniques have been used. Explain each one.
- What is the significance of particular colours being emphasized? Explain.
- What camera angle is being used? Discuss its effectiveness.
- What type of shot is being used? Discuss its effectiveness.
- What shapes and lines are predominant in the ad? What message is given to the
viewer as a result?
- What type of lighting is used in the ad? Why?
- What image is being used (or lack of one) and where is it placed in the ad?
Discuss its effectiveness.
- What
is the slogan?

Discuss its
effectiveness.

- What specific information is given in the copy? Discuss its effectiveness.


- How are the font style and spacing of objects and words used
effectively? Explain.

**Your paragraph will be fairly long if you include all of the required aspects. This assignment
is a major one. You should not collaborate with anyone on this activity.

Note: the ads submitted must be different than those used in any group work activity or those
discussed in class.
