What is global warming?

Global warming is the increase in the earths temperature by few degrees due to human activities such as burning up of fossil fuels which releases green house gases like carbon dioxide, methane, CFCs, nitrous oxide that makes earth warmer by trapping energy inside the atmosphere that causes changes in climate.

IMPACTS OF ENHANCED GREEN HOUSE EFFECT:

The increase in green house gasses in air that absorb infra red light containing heat due to anthropogenic activities resulting in increasing the average surface temperature beyond 15 degree C is enhanced green house effect.

rise between 1.5 to 5.5 degree c by 2050 at present rate. Rise in sea level: heating will melt the polar ice sheets and glaciers resuting in further rise in sea level.1m rise in sea level will inundate low lying areas like Lakshadweep islands in India Effects on human health : changes in rainfall pattern in many areas leads to affecting the distribution of vector borne diseases like malaria , elephantiasis etc. Effects on agriculture: even a 2 degree rise in temperature may be quite harmful to crops .increase in temp and humidity will increase pest growth like growth of vectors for various diseases .pests adapt to such changes better than crops.
