Director of the oPake institute for ethics, LeaDershiP anD PubLic service

Alvernia University seeks applications for the founding Director of the OPake Institute for Ethics, Leadership and Public Service. The Institute is named in memory of the late Senator Michael OPake (PA) whose life exemplified devotion to ethical leadership throughout his distinguished career in public service. The Director will be responsible for creating, enhancing and coordinating resources that catalyze faculty expertise and university resources with expertise from the civic, business and political communities into a major force for advancing both the University and its local and state communities. This opportunity to provide dynamic leadership requires someone with the demonstrated ability to develop strong and enduring programs and with the capacity to relate with equal effectiveness in both the academic and external communities. Applicants should have a Masters degree and a thorough understanding of leadership and its relationship to ethics and public policy as well as the vision and skills to lead the development of this new Institute. The Institute will sponsor a range of leadership programs and ethics initiatives that include undergraduate, graduate and non-degree certificate programs. New efforts will build on Alvernias longstanding strength in ethics and leadership programs. All students, undergraduate and graduate, fulfill at least one core requirement in ethics taught by skilled faculty in the Humanities and other areas, and the University also offers the areas only interdisciplinary doctorate in Leadership Studies as well as Leadership Berks, a community program dedicated to developing participants as servant-leaders. As sponsor of these and other new programs, the OPake Institute will become a vital center to enhance democratic citizenship and promote the value of public service.
