JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech (CCC) I Year Supplementary Examinations July/August - 2010 SURVEYING (Civil Engineering) Time: 3 Hours Max.Marks:100 Answer Any Five Questions All Questions Carry Equal Marks --1. a) b) Explain the permanent adjustments of a transit theodolite. What are the fundamental lines of a transit? Give the desired relationships between them. [12+8] Obtain an expression for the difference in level between two points by reciprocal vertical angle readings from two stations. Heights of instruments and targets should not be ignored. [20] Describe the procedure to determine the constants of a tacheometer in the field. Two horizontal distances of 50 m and 80 m were accurately measured and the intercepts on the staff between the outer stadia wires were 0.496 and 0.796 respectively. Calculate the tacheometeric constants. [10+10] What are the common difficulties in setting out simple curves? Describe briefly the methods employed in overcoming them. A compound curve is to connect two straight having a deflection angle of 900. As determined from the plan, the lengths of the two tangents are 350 m and 400 m respectively. Calculate the length of the two arcs if the radius of the first curve is 300 m. [10+10] What is meant by shift of a curve? Derive an expression-for the same. Explain the various methods of determining the length of a transition curve. [10+10] Explain the Criteria for selection of Triangulation stations. Explain how intervisibility of triangulation stations is determined for different cases. [10+10] Explain different methods of locating Soundings with the help of neat sketches. [20] What is a resolution? How many types are there? Explain them with neat Sketches. What are the different IRS missions and associated sensors and bands? [12+8]
