OBJECTIVES 4. One A3 3D rendering or Perspective drawing of ELIGIBILITY JUDGING CRITERIA

• To encourage the talented and capable new
designers to support the new ideas and creations in
product designs.
• To expand and revitalize the local design industry and
market through innovative designs.
• To strengthen the Malaysian products and business
competitiveness, particularly on the small and
medium scale entrepreneurs.
RULES AND CONDITIONS
• The sofa design to be submitted must be newly
created and previously unpublished. “Unpublished”
means that the work has never appeared in the
market as a product, has never appeared in any
newspaper, magazine, or exhibition, and has never
been a winner in other competitions before the
sponsor announces the results of the main selection
process. A work which has appeared in students’
exhibitions is considered unpublished.
• All the entries must be original creations or property
of the designer or individual submission of the
product design.
• Submission of entries should follow the following
specifications:
1. A concept paper of less than 500 words is
required. It should cover a description of the
situation, identification of any constraints that
may exist (such as cost, size etc), materials,
components or processes that may be suitable,
understanding of the user and clear
demonstration of the function.
2. One mood board in A3 size (Hardcopy)
3. One A3 Plan and all the elevations drawings
(including sizes and materials used). (Hardcopy)

5. High resolutions self picture (300dpi) for publicity
use.
6. Softcopy of item 1 should be in Word format
and as for item 2 to 5 in JPEG format or PDF
format. (CD-ROM)
7. ALL items submitted must clearly state the
participant’s name, contact details, institution’s
name and ALL items MUST be endorsed by the
respective institutions, whoever fails to comply
the above regulations will not be entertained.
8. Each entry must accompanied by an entry form.
9. Optional items:
- A video clip (in mp4 format) of the overall
concept presentation as additional info for
the entry.
- 3D model.
- All hard and softcopy material of applicants
need to be named and labelled properly and
all materials will not be returned.
- The material for the sofa’s body should only
be leather and no plastic is allowed while for
the sofa legs should either be stainless steel,
wood or metal.
• All submitted entries will be copyrighted on the
designer’s behalf. JDA wholly owns the intellectual
property of the submitted designs and JDA wholly
owns the production and commercial rights of the
submitted design. In the case that the designer
intends to use any of the submitted designs for
commercial purposes, the designer must contact and
possess the written permit from JDA.
• Open to students who are studying at any higher
institutions in Malaysia who major in Interior Design /
Industrial Design / Product Design. (Please attached
a photocopy of Student ID)
• Participation is only on individual basis.
PUBLICITY AND PROMOTION
1. The winner and finalists of the JDA agree to take part
in any publicity and promotional activities surrounding
the JDA and future JDA. As part of an ambassador’s
role of JDA, the winner will be required to partake in
selected activities recommended by the organiser.
2. Any entrants to the award may be asked to take part
in publicity and promotional activities for the JDA. As
a participant to the competition, you agree that your
concept of design, project details, images and
footage can be used for publicity purposes. You may
be invited to personally partake in publicity
opportunities such as interviews. Each opportunity
will be taken on merit and you have the right to
decline any opportunity which you do not wish to be
personally involved in.
NUMBER OF ENTRIES
1. No limit is set on the number of entries from any
applicant.
2. Entry can be submitted to the relevant person in
charge / department at each higher institutions
respectively.
REGISTRATION FEE
• No registration fee require for this competition.
• No explanation of the results will be provided and all
decision from the judges is final.
• Creativity (overall concept) 40%
• Marketability 20%
• Functionality (practicality) 20%
• Material use 20%
TOTAL 100%
PRIZES AND WINNER
• 5 finalists will be shortlisted as the winners for the
competition and 3 best designs will be selected as
top 3 finalists who then will be chosen to be the
receiver for the JDA GOLD Award, JDA SILVER
Award and JDA BRONZE Award and the other two
will be receiving the JDA MERIT Award.
• The number of awards may be adjusted in the
accordance with the overall quality level of the design
entry received and the organiser reserve the rights to
the final decisions made.
EXHIBITIONS
• All qualified entries will be displayed during the
Malaysia Furniture & Furnishing Fair 2009.
