Dukinfield East. Residents Association.

Committee Meeting held on 4th November 2013 Present: John Heywood David Bottomley John Bevan Angela Carr Kathy Inglis (JH) (DB) (JB) (AC) (KI) Chairman Treasurer Committee Member Committee Member Secretary

Guests: Simon Blomeley (SB), Neighbourhood Coordinator for Gorse Hall, New Charter. Bob Storey.
Apologies:

Linda Whyatt (LW), Resident Involvement Officer Preamble to Meeting: JH confirmed that there were sufficient members present to form a quorum, under the rules of the constitution. The meeting, therefore, proceeded to the agenda. Affiliation with New Charter SB: LW will go through the forms with JH and arrange a meeting to sign up. SB: There is an event; Christmas party, 17th December, at Beatrix House. DERA are welcome to go along talk about the Association. SB: There will be a Clean-up Day on the 3rd January. SB asked for suggestions about siting the skip, which must be on New Charter land. There will be a letter sent to all residents advising them of the event; if we wish to include information about DERA in this letter it should be no longer than A4. JH advised that the path between 139-141 Chester Avenue and the Circle Area had become overgrown. SB replied that he had notified Green Charter, previously, but will follow-up with Paul. SB asked about a Christmas tree. This would be a permanent location and must be planted on New Charter land. JH: We will review this later, but asked whether the land in front of the residential home on Yew Tree belonged to NC as it might be a suitable location? SB to check Review of public meeting JB noted the poor attendance KI: We referred to a DCC contribution to the Minibus Project; this should have been the Cameron Brookes Memorial fund. Effective methods for publicising future meeting Possible advertisement in press: JH concerned that we would need the map and description of DERAs aims and objectives which would require a quarter-page at the very least. AC thought that our leaflet should describe our achievements as well as asking for ideas from our members. JH: Last time we tried that style of leaflet, people were disappointed at the meeting that we did not have existing plans for the area rather than seeking their ideas as to what they wanted. JB asked if we had advertised on the radio. JH advise that we have all our meetings announced on Tameside Radio. KI suggested that we get the residents involved early in the meeting, before the guests, rather than at the any other business stage.

AC asked if we could get residents to enter their questions/suggestion at the start of the meeting. JH; this could be achieved by providing a form on the reverse of the hand-out leaflet DB queried what resources might offer us when we affiliate? BS suggested two times, one for the AGM and one for the public meeting. KI: other events were taking place on the night that did impact on attendance. AC suggested that we should organise more social events to get our name out there. JH: the problem is with the volume of leaflet for the AGM; the other public meetings are just circulated in the local area with posters in shops and libraries. Perhaps we could look at paying for distribution, costs around 80 for 3,000. DB: one of the problems is that New Charter, Police, TMBC are not always at our meetings. We have moved our dates from Wednesdays to Mondays to try to avoid clashes. Minibus Project KI the wheelchair access had been carried out by GM Coachworks. The ramp was being stored in KIs garage; there is a tool for removing 4 seats, when we use the ramp. Prices have been agreed for use of the bus, but we still need to organise an online booking calendar: DB to investigate options. Astley Sports College are prepared to issue keys to members who have booked the bus. They will pay for their own set of keys for the Minibus. KI: there is a mismatch between the mileage on the clock (Kilometre) and the trip meter (Miles). The trip meter fitted as standard should be used, not the card-slot recorder. JH to check the manual to advise on its use. Funding for proposed Dukinfield Diary: Bob Storey BS proposed a news letter to be distributed around the area. A copy of the Dob Cross Diary was passed round for the committee as an example of the type of publication. Some areas do daily emails to alert locals of events. Maybe a combination of a published diary and email might be the solution? The police are interested in this project. This is a project that he will run, initially committing to 30 hours per week to the start up. The committee agreed to back the funding bid from Tameside 4 Good provided that BS set-up and organised all other aspects of the project. Future Projects AC is seeking a suitable site for a play area. Any other business AC encountered a group of Astley students who were vandalising the timetable at the bus stop on Cheetham Hill Road. She reported the matter to Astley teachers and left it with them to take action.
