Twisted Empires Towny Staff Information

Staff Selection

Staff selection is based on qualifications. To be considered for a staff position, you must
have the following requirements:
Full application submitted at spawn*
TETSE Standard Version completion
Building portfolio (about five pictures of nice builds youve done)
Interview with Admin, Director, or Owner
Staff selection directly correlates to the size and behavior of the player base. A small and
behaved player base requires few staff, while a large and misbehaved player base requires
numerous staff. After submitting all the requirements, do not ask whether or not you were
reviewed or selected. You will be informed as will the server as a whole.

* = Full application denotes what is considered to be a complete application, possessing all the necessary
information and qualifications. No guide is given when creating the application, as including proper information is a
qualification itself.

Staff Promotion

Staff promotions are issued by the Director and/or Owner and are based on a number of
factors. These include longevity, need, and ability. All staff begin as a Trial Moderator,
and are promoted or demoted according to observation by other staff and reports from
trusted players.

Staff Demotion

Staff demotions are issued by the Director and/or Owner and are based on a number of
factors. They include but are not limited to: violation of server or staff rules, failure to
complete assigned or general tasks, and neglect of staff procedure. An internal
investigation is launched to begin a demotion, verifying that the suspected party is indeed
an incapable staff member. Reports from other staff and trusted players are also
considered. If the party does not meet the criteria to maintain her/his rank or staff status, a
demotion is issued.

Staff Rules

1. All staff are to behave with strong levels of maturity and friendliness.
2. As a staff member, you are never too busy to assist a player.
3. Ensure all players have an enjoyable experience on Twisted Empires Towny Server by
being welcoming and helpful.
4. You are not to abuse staff-only permissions. As of now, the only staff permissions that
can be used personally are workbench, enderchest, fly, colored text in chat, hat, pets,
trails, and disguise. You are not to troll with any of these.
5. You are to behave in an acceptable manner on all servers of Twisted Empires.
Misbehavior on any server will have repercussions on Towny.
6. Unnoted inactivity of one month will result in full demotion. To reenter staff as a Trial
Moderator, you must again apply and test. Your rank will not be restored.
7. Issue fitting punishments. Punishments that are deemed not fitting will be reversed and
may result in partial or full demotion.
8. When handling iffy situations, professionalism is key.
9. Keep all matters in staff chats (on server and Skype) staff related.
10. Anything said in staff chat is to stay in staff chat. Violators will be punished.

Staff Duties

Each staff rank has its own set of duties, and each rank up inherits the duties of the one
below. So, if an Admin is the only staff on, they will handle their Admin duties, as well
as the ones of Moderator+, Moderator, and Trial Moderator. However, if a lower rank is
on, do not take their jobs.

Trial Moderator: You handle minor chat disputes and rule violations, as well as
providing assistance to new players.

Moderator: You settle arguments, prevent spam, and make sure no players are scammed,
while also helping Trial Moderators make the right decisions.

Moderator+: You investigate smaller reports of griefing and theft, while reminding
players of the rules. You also monitor suspicious players and watch over younger staff.

Admin: You deal with everything from chat violations to griefing. You look over players
and staff, and provide the always-needed help to players.

Director: You direct staff while possessing the same jobs as Admin.

There are also assigned duties, which can be distributed by various members of staff, the
owner, and certain members of Twisted Empires staff. They will be explained when they
are allocated.

Failure to competently complete these duties can result in a partial or full demotion.

Each staff rank comes with its new set of permissions, while inheriting those of the lower
rank.

Staff Procedure

There are set ways to deal with particular situations as a staff member on Twisted
Empires Towny Server. The following details appropriate behaviors in described
scenarios.

HelpOp Requests
Players have the command /helpop to send messages and requests to staff. All staff, from
Trial Moderator to Director, receive these requests which can make handling them a
commotion. The best way to respond to these is by following your jobs, as defined in
Staff Duties. If they overlap, it is a first-come, first-serve basis. Despite whichever of
these applies, claim the HelpOp in staff chat (/m). Then, message the sender that you are
handling their request or answer their question. If you cannot complete a HelpOp request
due to rank, simply reply to the sender that you will report it to the appropriate person
and it will be handled soon.

Example:

Griefing
Griefing is never fun, but it happens sometimes. Griefing is a job typically handled by
Moderator+ and above, as it requires these permissions. Below you will find a list of
steps to take when investigating griefing to reach the most desirable outcome. Dont ever
hesitate to ask other staff and/or the Owner for help/advice while investigating griefing.

Investigating Griefing:
1. Teleport to the alleged victim and investigate what happened.
2. Use CoreProtect /co inspect to see who destroyed the blocks and when.
3. Check to see if the assailant is online.
4. Reliant on the answer to Step 3:
Online First /invsee and /endersee to see if they are carrying the stolen blocks. If
they are, take them, and jail the griefer. If they arent, /vanish and tp to them to see
where they are and what theyre doing. Jail them, and see if you can locate where
their chests are. Check the chests for the items. If found, seize them. If nothing is
found, report the player in staff chat where a resolution/conclusion will be reached.
Offline Jail the griefer and report their name in staff chat. Any staff online when
they connect can explain to them that they were caught griefing. Follow 4.1 after this.
5. Report to someone with console access* that they are needed.
-If no one can be located, tell the owner to leave the griefing as is for now and that it
will be dealt with as soon as possible.
6. Decide what to do to compensate the owner of the griefed property:
a. Use CoreProtect /co rollback to rollback the griefing
b. Enter /gm c and rebuild the griefed area
c. Give the owner the blocks that were taken
These are listed in order of desirability, a being most desirable, while c being least.
7. Assign a punishment to the griefer based on the severity of the grief.
a. Fine the griefer an appropriate amount with funds being delivered to the victim.
b. Jail the griefer for an appropriate amount of time.
c. Temp ban the griefer for an appropriate amount of time.
d. Ban the griefer.
e. Certain combinations of the above.
Always consult with other staff before issuing a punishment. Griefing should never
be handled by just one individual.
*Console access is currently granted to a select few Admins, the Director, the Owner, and certain TE
staff. However, matters like this are to be kept within server staff. Do not ask any TE staff to handle
the compensation and punishment.

Theft:
-Shared chests through /cmodify and
/cpassword
-Picking up dropped items during
someone elses exchange
-Picking up items after PvP where there
was a previous give-back agreement
Not Theft:
-Unlocked chests in towns/wilderness
-Picking up accidentally dropped items
-Picking up items after PvP where there
was no previous agreement
-Picking up items after killing someone
in PvP-enabled towns/the wilderness

Theft
Theft is another thing that is never fun, but it happens. On Twisted Empires Towny
Server, however, only a select few instances count as theft. Below are lists of types of
situations where actions are and are not defined as theft.

Note: Chests is used here to collectively refer to any block that has an inventory (furnaces, dispensers, etc.)

Investigating Theft:
Chests
1. Teleport to the alleged victim.
2. Use /co inspect to see who took what out of where and when.
3. Teleport the alleged assailant to you and discuss what happened.
4. Evaluate both sides of the story.
-If there is severe conflict, involve as many staff members as possible.
-If there is seemingly honesty, be sure to still include at least one other staff member.
5. Determine who was in the wrong and what was taken. Seize the stolen items and return
them to the proper player. Use /invsee, /endersee, and manual chest searches.
6. Select one of the following punishments for the confirmed assailant.
a. Do not punish the thief, it was a minor theft, they were cooperative, and it was resolved.
b. Fine the thief an appropriate amount with funds being delivered to the victim.
c. Jail the thief for an appropriate amount of time.
d. Temp ban the thief for an appropriate amount of time.
e. Certain combinations of the above.

Entities
Everything is handled the same as Chests, except Step 2 is dropped.

Theft is like griefing, try to never singlehandedly investigate if possible.

Minor Violations
Minor violations are to be handled by one single staff member, usually of the lower two
ranks (of course if a higher rank is the only staff online, they will handle it). These
include most of the rule violations involving chat and general behavior. These do not
include incidents of griefing, theft, hacking, modded clients, x-raying, exploitation of
glitches, etc.

Staff should not behave like a pack of wolves attacking a small rabbit, but like two foxes
having a conversation. If someone uses excessive CAPS, only one member has to handle
it. We do not need four or five members barking for something small. Again, minor
violations are to be handled by only one staff member.

Mini Mods
Mini mods are fine and should not be reprimanded unless they clearly echo you. If they
correct someone for broadcasting other servers before you, you do not necessarily need
to, unless they continue. However, if you are the first to correct, and they repeat you
several seconds later (enough time for them to have seen your message but still continued
typing), you should private message them and tell them one person correcting is enough.
