We have two
major areas of
study over the
next few
months. One is
the detective
genre. The
other is
Shakespeares
play Macbeth.
Including the
Sherlock Holmes
novels, our work
on these two
areas aims to
develop
students
knowledge. We
also use the
themes to work
on language
skills so
important as the
GCSEs loom.

We kick the term

off with
algebraic graphs
before moving
on to decimals
and estimations.
After half term
the focus
switches to
inequalities and
percentages.
The summer
term then
begins with work
on probability,
3D shapes and
indices &
standard form.
Each half term
ends with
assessments.

The Biology
component
includes training
animals and
genetic
engineering. A
strong Physics
element
includes: sound;
balance; circular
motion; falling;
terminal
velocity; and
winter sports.
Chemistry topics
include rock
types and
fossils. There
will also be work
on metals and
reactivity. Its a
busy few
months!

Alongside the
parts of the
body and past
holidays, the
first half term
will focus on the
future tense and
a comparison of
all three tenses.
The work on all
three tenses
continues in the
run up to Easter
with work on TV
programmes and
films. The
summer term
sees focused
preparation for
the GCSE
course.

From now until

Easter we cover
Citizenship and RE
modules. The first
half term has a
democracy theme
with students
learning how
national and local
government is
organised. Our
world religion will
be Judaism and
include lessons on
the background to
the Holocaust and
its impact. We
start the summer
term by looking at
20th Century
conflict.

Catering
One activity will
be to plan a two
course meal and
evaluate its
nutritional values.
Improving cakebaking sills will
then lead on to
including
vegetables and
fruit.
Computing
Having
introduced
programming, the
run up to the
Easter break
covers the basics
of graphics. Then
we move on to
website design.

Were making
the work of
artist Jon
Burgerman a
focus for the
coming weeks.
Tasks will
involve drawing,
designing and
paper sculpture.
The DT
component of
our work will
focus on the use
of metal.
Students will be
asked to design,
make and
evaluate a key
ring or piece of
jewellery.

Following on
from a very
successful
pantomime
performance just
before
Christmas, we
now move on to
some work
around the
theme of a
haunted house
to be
performed in
March and not to
