ELA

MATH

ELA has started off the year assessing students in a

variety of areas, including comprehension, fluency,
and writing skills. Ms. Zabel and Mrs. DeMuth have
worked hard to get great reading into the hands of
every student through a variety of book talks and
library visits. We have also been working on building our inferencing and explaining skills through
videos, pictures, and text. Classes have started the
read aloud using the novel Wonder, in which we look
closely at character and examine character traits.
The accelerated class uses the novel Bruiser as their
read aloud.

In Math, we are wrapping up the unit on ratios related to tables, graphs, equations, double line diagrams. We'll take a summative on Friday. The
next unit will be on ratios related to unit rates, better buy and percents. Math Club is happening
every Tuesday in Ms. Felker's room (148). We are
planning on participating to 3 Math Competitions:
Montini, ICTM, Math Olympiads.

Thought Logs are to be completed every night,

Monday through Friday, after completing 30 minutes of reading.

Social Science is in the early stages of our geography unit. We are working on exploring places of interest to the students while learning the basic
themes of geography that apply to their choices, as
well as other civilizations and regions we will learn
about later this year.

Math tutoring is going on every day except for

Thursday from 3:00 to 4:00.

SOCIAL SCIENCE

SCIENCE
In science, students are learning about the scientific
method. They are beginning to apply their understanding of the scientific method through experiments and are also analyzing data to draw
conclusions.
