Time

This week we are learning:

Circle Time Review
This week in circle time we are going
to review the vocabulary from the
last week: full sentence, capital letter,
full stop, comma, question mark. We
are going to play flash card draw
and duck, duck, goose to do this,
focusing on pronunciation.
We are also going to review the verb
to have so that the students can use
it when speaking in full sentences.

Grammar points:
We are going to continue to use full complete sentences in our speaking and writing,
focusing on using the correct pronouns and making sure adjectives are used before the
noun.
Activities:
We are going to do a worksheet where the students have to read a jumbled sentence and
rearrange the order of the words. We are also going to do exercises where the students
have to copy down several sentences from the board and they have to fill in the missing
full stops, question marks and capital letters where appropriate.
We are going to a spelling test on full sentences on the following words: full sentence,
capital letter, full stop, comma, question mark.
Games:
We are going to play "fly swat", where the students have to hit the flashcard with the word
that the teacher said. The students will be divided into two teams and then compete to
see who can it hit it first. We are also going to play a memory game. I am going to put the
flashcards out in order and we are going to say the words. Then turn over one card and
repeat the order, turn over a card and repeat the process until all flashcards are turned
over. We are going to play spin the bottle. The student who the bottle lands on must
answer a question the teacher asks using a full sentence.

Phonics
P1 Preparation

This week in phonics we will be

studying the blended consonants ll
and ss as end sounds - Bell, well,
hill, drill, yell, mill, doll; Dress,
cross, kiss, press. The students
will complete writing and reading
exercises in their workbooks
practicing the vocabulary words
and also how to use them in full
sentences. We will also use
phonics games like Bingo, the
Corners Game and the Slaps
Game to review all vocabulary
words. So far the students are
doing well with the new phonics
and so we will continue to move
forward at a fast pace and check
that everyone is keeping up.

Maths
This week in phonics we will revise all
previously covered consonant blends, and
check that all of the students are using
them correctly to form words. I will test their
ability with vocabulary words that they have
already come across, and also introduce
some new words to ensure that they are
reading the blends with confidence. We can
use practice exercises in the reader and
activity books to help. We can also practice
using games like Bingo, X and O, or TPR
games like the Corners Game. We will also
start studying 'st' as an end sound using
the words fist, rest, dust, nest, crust, vest,
crest.

The students will be given some
Maths homework. Please
encourage your child to complete
the work. Also please could you
help them to revise for the
spelling test and to practice the
new sounds in this weeks
