As Tories try to take away unsocial hours allowance...
STRIKE FOR THE NHS
29 Jan and 25 FEB T
he Tories contempt for
the NHS and those who work in it knows no bounds. Cameron and Hunt are denying that there is a crisis in our A&E departmentsas waiting times stand at a ten year high. The running down of local authority social care is putting even greater pressure on our NHS and the staff who work so hard to provide the service. As NHS workers our action is in defence of the health service and the entire welfare state. Were fighting for everyone and we should call on everyone to join our picket lines. The NHS strike can be a focus for other workers, students, pensionerseveryone who hates what the Tories are doing. Not satisfied with refusing to give health workers a well deserved pay rise, now they are proposing abolishing unsocial hours payments. The governments proposals on Sustainable Options For Future Pay have been submitted to the Pay Review Body (PRB). These options include: Removing unsocial hours rates. Paying a flat rate for all staff. Changing periods which are considered unsocial and attract premium pay rates. Flexibility premiums rather than unsocial hours premiums. Revising progression pay alongside changes to unsocial hours.
United
The last time a Tory government
threatened to take away unsocial hours payments from nurses was in 1988. Thirty-eight Manchester night nurses walked out on strike and defeated this plan. We need to show this weak coalition government that we are prepared to fight together and defend our unsocial hours payments and gain a real pay rise.
UCH strikers in November
Our NHS would not last a single day
without the contribution of migrant workers. United strike action is the best possible antidote to the divisive poison of UKIP. It is very unusual that so many unions across the public sector are taking strike action against the government so close to a general election.
Community
And while its good that Labour has
made some election pledges to defend the health service it has also pledged to stick to wider Tory spending plans. We cant rely on Labourstrikes are the best defence of the health service. Our NHS trade union leaders have called on us to escalate the strike action on 29th January for twelve hours from 9 am until 9 pm and take ASOS (action short of strike action) between
30 January and 25 February. There will
be a 24 hour strike on 25 February. NHS workers need to reach out to other trade unionists and community campaigns and invite them to join and support our picketsthis is a fight for everyone. When MPs award themselves an 11 percent pay rise, it really does show that its one rule for them and another for the rest of us. We must remember that this is a weak ConDem coalition government with no majority. It is made up of billionaires from Eton who have no interest in the NHS or its staff. We have the opportunity in this national dispute to strike a blow against Cameron and his cronies, win on pay, and defend our NHS. Join the union, join the pickets, fight for your pay rise, hands off our NHSWe can win!
