Open Joint Committees Meeting
January 25, 2010 - 5:30 pm
Attending: Kari, Katie, Ramona, Sharon, Rachel, Ian, Jimeka, Amber

I. Welcome and Introductions

II. Open Joint Committees Meetings

a. meeting structure
> minutes and ideas slips (include who, what, where, when, and how) These slips are for
us to write down ideas that YNPN might consider for future programming.

b. purpose and role of new committees (see below, III and IV)

1. parking Lot – it was noted that this is the place to add new ideas that YNPN might want
to investigate further (located in Google Docs, available only to committee members)

2. tracking promotions – Also in Google Docs – it was resolved that at the next Social
Committee meeting we would go over the process of how this document works

c. scheduling - It was settled that the time and day (last Monday of the month, 5:30) worked
for everyone who came

d. venue - It was also settled that the venue (Starbucks on Euclid and 14th , upper floor) was
suitable for meeting. It was also noted that we should bring a sign next time to put over the
railing so that people coming in will see us

III. Professional Development

a. working definition for committee’s purposes – It was noted that this group might also be
called “Career Development”, and that it encompasses anything that is NOT a happy
hour/social event – example given were workshops, seminars, roundtables,
conversations, book clubs, etc.

b. Upcoming Events
1. Monday, February 8, 6:00-7:30 pm at The Coffee House
> YNPN Cleveland Conversations with Linda Springer of CSVP
> It was noted that a Q&A style format would be good, with a bit of networking
beforehand, then a discussion from the panel.
> It was also noted that two sides of the concept should be discussed – not only how to
approach/fundraise from giving circles, but also how one might organize and be a part of
one

2. Late April, Fundraising 101 or Accidental Fundraiser

> It was noted that one idea for format would be to have different tables set up for
different types of fundraising skills, i.e., individual donors, government, etc.
> Also, different types of fundraising activities, like cultivating donors, networking, etc.
> Some suggestions for guests to contact were mentioned, such as AFP, Foundation
Center, UCP (Sharon)

3. Cleveland Play House PR event

> late summer

d. Other Initiatives
1. Member survey/ white paper – It was noted that hopefully this would be ready by the
April Anniversary party (see below), and the white paper perhaps could come out of it, or it might
be a different project entirely

IV. Social Networking

a. working definition for committee’s purposes- It was noted that the Social Committee
executes any event that is (primarily) social/networking in nature, plus any volunteer
initiatives

b. Upcoming Events
1. Thursday, February 18, 5:30-7:30 pm
> happy hour at The Treehouse in Tremont
> It was noted that personal invites through Facebook have been somewhat effective
in getting more people to attend happy hours. It was encouraged that all committee members
make an effort to personally reach out to people and invite them to YNPN events.

2. Thursday, March 18, ? – time not yet determined

> reception, tour, and show at Dobama Theatre
> It was noted that food and drink would be offered, plus a tour, tickets are $17 and the
tour/reception may be contingent on ticket purchase. Kari will look into the detail further and
report back

3. Early April, Anniversary Party/Networking Event

> differentiating from our “normal” happy hours
> report on potential dates, venues – It was reported that several venues are being
investigated, with the goal of securing a free space with the possibility of a drink/food
special. Some venues being discussed are Bodega on Coventry, Bier Markt, ABC Tavern,
and Prosperity Social Club
> member survey

4. Saturday, April 10
> group volunteer opportunity at MS Walk
> It was noted that members who are interested in taking part in a YNPN volunteer
group should email ynpncleveland@gmail.com

b. national revenue initiative
It was noted that this may involve chapter dues
c. national leaders’ conference, April 23-24 in Denver
