MATH BEFORE CHRIST

CONTENT:
Math started way back before Christ was born .Most of the time people use math,
they dont even notice it. If you just go to check the time, youre still using math. So
when people a long time ago used math, they didnt know they were using it .
Archimedes became really familiar with math, but no one called the study math yet.
People used little pieces of it every day and they didnt notice it so they took no notice of
it at all. The Romans used Roman Numerals and noticed math and how it was used.
That is where numbers got their name. The whole point is math has been around
forever but we just didnt notice it until we became more sophisticated.
In 3,000 B.C., people first started using theoretical tools and numbering systems
in Mesopotamia (Babylon) and Egypt. The mathematician and scholar Euclides started
his famous school of mathematics in Alexandria, as such laying the corner stone of
mathematics. The Egyptians used a decadic numbering system, which is based on the
number 10 and still in use today. They also introduced characters used to describe the
numbers 10 and 100, making it easier to describe larger numbers. Geometry started to
receive great attention and served in surveying land, cities and streets.

EXPERIENCE:
o Family: In my family Math is very important since my father is an Engineer
and my older sister is an Architect student. We use Math every day, in
school at home, everywhere. My mother uses Math when she calculates
our daily expenses.
o Self: I use Math every day. I use Math everywhere I go in whatever I do. In
school I deal whenever I pay something or when we are having our
classes. In going to school I use it when I pay for my fare in jeepney. At
home, I use Math whenever I look at the time or do my assignments.
o Community: In a community, Math is very important. It is used to
determine the population, the budget needed for a certain project.
o Science & Technology: Without Math Science & Technology wouldnt be
present. They say Math is the twin of Science. Without Math theres no
Science & without Science theres no Technology. One of its important
uses is the computation using formulas used in inventions.

REFLECTION:
Before we were even born Math is already here. It could be the oldest thing
present in this world. It was present even before Christ. Math is the root of everything. It
is our everyday knowledge come from. So it is very important to know its importance,
we have to learn it, live by it, and apply it. We may not realize it but in every single thing
we do, Math is always there.

JARAULA

ANALYSIS:
Math is indeed very old but is the most useful thing in the world even up to this
very day. Math shouldnt be taken lightly. It can be the easiest to deal with but could also
be the hardest. It is the most useful thing, even more important than Science.
It is dated way back in time, even before Christ. People have been using Math
but are not aware that they have been using it. It is in later time that people have gain
knowledge of Math and therefore studied and discovered new things to widen the
knowledge about Mathematics.

EVALUATION:
Our world is advancing rapidly, with each new day different from yesterday. It is
very important to be up dated. We should not limit ourselves to the knowledge that we
have now, but instead with each new day we should widen it more. Learn more as to
discover new things and have more knowledge and make use of it.

NUMEROLOGY
CONTENT:
Numerology is the study of numbers, and the occult manner in which they reflect
certain aptitudes and character tendencies, as an integral part of the cosmic plan. Each
letter has a numeric value that provides a related cosmic vibration. The sum of the
numbers in your birth date and the sum of value derived from the letters in the name
provide an interrelation of vibrations. These numbers show a great deal about character,
purpose in life, what motivates, and where talents may lie. Experts in numerology use
the numbers to determine the best time for major moves and activities in life.
Numerology is used to decide when to invest, when to marry, when to travel, when to
change jobs, or relocate.
Pythagoras, the Greek mathematician who lived from 569-470 B.C., is said by
many to be the originator of much of what we call numerology today. The actual origins
of numerology predate Pythagoras, the most popular being the very old Hebrew
Kabbalah. In the twentieth century, the old discipline seems to magically reappear in the
form of a series of books published from 1911-1917 by L. Dow Balliett and it was helped
along in the 30s by Florence Campbell, and within the next few decades a wealth of
literature was available to the public. Indeed, if you look at the past 90 years, it would
seem that the discipline has moved very rapidly. But perhaps all of this was known at a
much earlier time, and it was just hiding from us for a while.

EXPERIENCE:
o Family: It is very important in my family since we are of Chinese origin
and we look into horoscopes or predictions. Numerology is used in
predictions or horoscope.
o Self: It is important to me because I can use it when I want to know
something, it is a big help when I need to make a decision,
o Community: In a community, Numerology is of use whenever they need
to make a decision like when to make something or when the best time to
make something is.
o Science & Technology: It is also important in Sciences since Sciences is
full of predictions and derivations. Numerology can be used with this.

REFLECTION:
Ive learned that Numerology is important too. This is one branch of Math in
which shows a different use of it. I never thought that Math can be use to predict or to
get the meaning of something. Study of Numerology can be a great help to the
community and people.

JARAULA

ANALYSIS:
Numerology is simply a study of numbers; Pythagoras was named as the father
of modern Numerology. Numerology is actually very old too since it was dated back in
the twentieth century. Now, numerology is used in various things. Masters of
Numerology uses it to predict an event or to know the meaning of a word through the
use of numbers. It is also used in horoscopes.

EVALUATION:
Indeed Numerology is important. We should have the time to learn it because it
could be of great use to us. These days, there are many things that we do not
understand and through the use of Numerology we can find some meaning or know
some information about those things.

NUMBER MYSTICISM
CONTENT:
The study of the occult meanings of numbers and their supposed influence on
human life .Number mysticism is one of the most important symbolic aspects of
astrology (Symbolism) and at the same time some of the roots of number mysticism are
to be found in celestial observation. Number symbolism holds the view that numbers
have not only a quantitative-numerical value where one number follows the next, but
also possess an inherent quality independent of their numerical value. This quality
enables us to comprehend cosmic cycles and laws and to transfer and relate them to
life on Earth (Microcosm/Macrocosm; Analogy). Some esoteric schools associate letters
of the alphabet with certain numbers and so come to a completely different
understanding of texts such as the Bible.
Numbers are an important concept in the everyday world. Although
individuals may not think critically about numbers in their everyday lives, many
individuals still place importance on certain numbers without knowing they are doing so.
Some numbers may not have the typical mystical quality, but rather are important
because of the historical background attached to the number. One such number is
the number 2. Other numbers are important facets of ones life based
on the qualities that they are believed to possess. Numbers themselves
are deemed to have characteristics that make them distinguishable from
other numbers. With the rise of numerology, such numbers as 666 have become
signicant with the biblical references attached to the number. Modern number
superstitions, such as those involving the number 7 and the number 13,
also have historical roots comparable to 2. These two numbers have
maintain prominence in todays society because of the background and
superstition attached to these numbers.

EXPERIENCE:
o Family: We once watched TV show that talked about the history of
numbers. We found out that each number has its own history or has a
history tied to it.
o Self: I first encountered Number Mysticism in school when our teacher
had a discussion about it, I enjoyed listening to him and Id like to know
more.
o Community: In a community, Number Mysticism is encountered every
day since a community deals with numbers everyday.
o Science & Technology: Science is full of mysteries, one of which are
how things were created or their origin. Example of these things are
numbers, when talking about the history of numbers Number Mysticism is
the answer.

JARAULA

REFLECTION:
Learning about numbers is easy, we can count, we can write, but we think we
know them well. The truth is we dont, there are so many things we dont know about
them. After reading about Number Mysticism, I realized that there is more to numbers
than we know. We dont even know where they came from, or why they are called like
that or why they look like that.

ANALYSIS:
Number Mystecism is the study of the history of numbers, it was discovered by
Pythagoras. Numbers have a unique characteristic that makes them distinguishable
from other numbers. In Number Mysticism we learn all about this characteristics and the
history tied to it.

EVALUATION:
Learning about Number Mysticism is not easy since there are so many numbers,
and each number has its own characteristic and history. But it is fun to explore all about
them and find out new things about numbers that we never even thought of before.

2000 YEARS AGO

CONTENT:
During the last 2000 years, mathematics has changed radically. Mathematics
were never invented but rather discovered. It exists in every aspect of our lives, all
around us. Humans have been known to use numbers for about 8000 years. Around
3500 BC the first account of cross tabs were kept which Assyrians used for collecting
taxes. Mayas used quipus around 2500 BC to keep track of counts. Symbolic
mathematics with equations, theorems and proofs began around 500 BC. In the
17th century calculus was invented (independently by Newton and Leibniz) and modern
abstract algebra where symbols like x and y denote arbitrary entities stems from the mid
19th century. As this historical account shows, the growth spurt in mathematical
development is of relative recent origin.
Around 2000 years ago Hindus developed the number system we still use today.
It reached its current form around the 6th century. Arabic mathematicians introduced it in
the west about a century later. Thats why we still call it the Arabic system although
that description isnt quite true.
Besides this system many others have been, and some are still in use. We have seen
the Cuneiform, Etruscan, Mayan, ancient Chinese, Ancient Indian, and Roman. The
ancient Chinese and Roman numbers are still in use. In all systems, the numbers 1-2-3
bear structural similarities, and from there on the numbers always differ. For instance, in
Arabic numbers, 1-2-3 were made up of one through three horizontal lines which can
still be seen in the way we write 1-2-3. The similarity between 1-2-3 appears to carry
some significance with regards to how we process small (up to 3) numbers (almost
instantaneously, little cognitive processing) relative to larger quantities.

EXPERIENCE:
o Family: When my father went to Japan and bought a book about the
History of Math. He asked us to read this and understand it more.
o Self: I had my experience about this when we had our lesson about this
when were in second year.
o Community: It is important in the community, because it is all about the
history of Math. Math is very important in the community, so if there was
no Math 2000 years ago, theres surely no Math now.
o Science & Technology: It is very important in Science & Technology
because if scientists doesnt understand something, they could look into
the outline of Math years ago.

REFLECTION:

JARAULA

It is very important to learn what Math was like 2000 years ago. Because learning
the roots of Math will actually make it more easier to understand it now. There are a lot
of very important details that we should know about. We should also understand the
concepts and how the modern Math was developed.

ANALYSIS:
2000 years ago, the number system that we use now was developed by the
Hindus. Thats why it is called The Arabic System. So basically, Math 2000 years ago
continue to live on. Besides this system many others have been, and some are still in
use. We have seen the Cuneiform, Etruscan, Mayan, ancient Chinese, Ancient Indian,
and Roman. The ancient Chinese and Roman numbers are still in use. In all systems,
the numbers 1-2-3 bear structural similarities, and from there on the numbers always
differ

EVALUATION:
So far, it is hard to go way back years ago since there is very limited sources of
information. But according to history, Math started years even before Christ was born.
But looking at the world now, Math has truly developed. Lots of Mathematical systems
has been developed over the years. The Math that we know now has actually its own
history, and is dated years and years ago.
