Rio Olympics Homework

Choose one activity to complete each week, remember to share digital ones
with me! Be ready to present each Friday. FRIDAY due dates: Week 4,
Week 5, Week 6, Week 7 and Week 8. You need to pick 5 activities to
complete.
NUMBER 1:
Research the Olympic rings.
What do they mean and
symbolise? Who created them
and when? Where did he get
the idea from?

NUMBER 2:
Design a banner to support
your team or athlete

NUMBER 3:
What are the 3 Olympic
Values? Construct a poster
about these, either on paper or
digital

NUMBER 4:
Design your own Olympic
Games based around activities
you enjoy.
How would you represent New
Zealand? World Champion
Cartoonist? Gold Medal winning
Reader? Your games need at
least 10 events.
NUMBER 7:
Create your own version of the
NZ Team uniform. Choose a
sport you enjoy and create a
uniform for it. Make sure the
uniform is suited to the sport.
You need to show/explain why
you have made design features.

NUMBER 5:
Current Events. Find a news
source (internet, TV news,
newspaper etc) about an
athlete that has been
successful at the games.
Construct your own version of
a news article.

NUMBER 6:
Pretend youre a spectator at
the Olympics. Write a recount
of your experience. Or write a
recount of a game/event you
have watched.

NUMBER 8:
Create a new game or sport
that could be played at the
next Olympics, Describe what
environment it is played in and
discuss the rules.

NUMBER 9:
Imagine if the next Olympics
was held in Auckland.
Thousands of visitors would
come here from all over the
world. Where would they stay?
How would they get around the
city? (we already have huge
traffic jams!) What else would
they do while they are here?
Make a plan for Auckland
Council to help them prepare
the city!

Recognising other peoples work

I expect you to recognise information you have directly copy and pasted. Remember you can copy
and paste some information, however you MUST tell me where it came from. Also, ALL of the
information in your homework should NOT be copy and pasted!! Recognising other peoples work
that you have used is a great habit to get into heading into Year 8 and High School.
One way you can recognise work is by stating where you got your information from at the end of your
presentation for example have a paragraph saying I got my information from www.wikipedia.com ,
www.stuff.co.nz etc.
OR
After you have copy and pasted some information you could put the link to where you got your
information from in brackets straight after the copy and pasted part. What you copied MUST be in
speech marks e.g. Florence Nightingale was born on 12 May 1820 into a rich, upper-class, well-connected
British family at the Villa Colombaia, in Florence, Italy, and was named after the city of her birth
(www.wikipedia.com).
