What we did
2015-2016
Penpals

We wrote letters to our penpals in Dublin. We told them a few things about us
and they told us a few things about them. On the 5 th of May we met up with
them in the activity centre Base which is in Celbridge. We played laser tag and
bowling. We had food after and talked for a while. We got a photograph
together. Then we said goodbye. We are still writing to them.
Megan Mooney, 1 Moy

We made friends with a Dublin school and we wrote letters to them. We wrote
three letters each. We went to Base Celbridge to meet up with them. We
played laser tag and bowling.
John Dolan, 1 Moy

This year we made friends with a Dublin school. We were writing letters to each
other. A couple of months after we started writing to each other we met up.
We played laser tag and bowling. I was unreal at laser tag and bowling. Sean and
I got a strike. The students from Dublin were sound.
Aaron Monds, 1 Moy

The school we linked with did their Make a Book Project on our letters. This is a
picture of their project. It looks at the things we had in common with them and
the differences that we noticed. They also included a copy of the letters in a
booklet.
Pen Pal Meet up
On the 5th of May both classes met up in Cellbridge. It was organised by Mr
White in Riversdale and Ms OCallaghan in Oaklands.

Spelling Bee

I took part in a spelling bee. We had to learn 16 words for each subject. It was
easy. I got 16/16 in my tests. I was happy because I got that.
Jamie Fennessy, 1 Moy

The spelling bee was when the teacher got us to learn words from the list. The
teacher called them out and we had to write them down. The spelling bee is
important to help us spell the words better.
Rachel Coyne, 1 Lee

We had to learn 16 words every week for 6 weeks. We had a test at the end of
every week and we had to revise the worlds. I got really good scores. I was very
happy with my scores.

Spelling Bee Celebration
Our Spelling Bee celebration took place on Friday 20 th of May.

On Friday the 20th of May we had a celebration for the Spelling Bee. We got
certificates and some people got plaques. At the end we got pizza, chips and
sweets. It was a great day.
Andrew Mulligan, 1 Lee

All the first year JCSP classes were called up to the hall. We were told that all
the students improved their spelling. We were given pizza, chips, sweets and
drinks. I really liked the idea that some people got plaques.
Conor Farrell, 1 Lee

At the celebration I was presented with a certificate. At the end we got

drinks, pizza and lollipops. Im very happy that I am part of JCSP. Its fun and

Make a Book

I went to the Make a Book Exhibition in Dublin. I made a sculpture out of

clay. I made the bridge at the canal where I live. It has been there for
years. I would love to go to the exhibition again. I enjoyed going to
McDonalds after the exhibition. I really liked Make a Book.
Josh Guilfoyle, 1 Lee

In March we went to Make a Book. We got to go because the applied art

class made a project. It was a lovely day out. We saw different projects
from other schools. When we arrived at Make a Book we were given a sheet
with questions on it and we had to look for answers all over the place. It was
a great day.
Andrew Mulligan 1 Lee

We went to Make a book in March. When we got there we were given a quiz
to answer. Our school has never had a winner before so we were all hoping
we would win a prize. My favourite project was the music video. On the way
back we stopped in McDonalds. I got a double bacon cheeseburger and a
McFlurry. A week later we were told that Caroline won a prize in the quiz.
Conor Farrell, 1 Lee

Make a Book Quiz Winner

Every year at Make a Book each student gets the opportunity to enter a quiz
based on the exhibition. Each entry is placed into a box where eleven prize
winners are selected. This year was the first year that Oaklands had a
winner. Congratulations to Caroline in 1 Foyle who received an iPod mini from
JCSP!

Library Trip
First year students enjoyed a trip to Edenderry Library. While they were
there they received a talk on the services available in the library and how to
go about joining the library.

Writer in Residence
This year in conjunction with Poetry Ireland we had a writer in Residence.
