AP Study Guide Biopsychology

This study guide is meant as a resource to assist you in the reading and help
prepare you for the AP exam. It is not meant to be an alternative to the reading.
On a separate sheet of paper, answer the following questions:
1- Define ALL vocabulary at the end of the chapter.

2- Describe how one neuron communicates with another. Be sure to include detail of each
section of the neuron.

3- Give Examples of how the left and right hemispheres of the brain are different.
Specifically, what would damage to the left hemisphere result in the loss of.?

4- Categorize the Brains many structures into the following groups: Brainstem, Limbic
System, and Cerebral Cortex. What is the overall function for each of these three parts of
the brain?

5- Differentiate between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. What is the


function of each? Which glands in the Endocrine system have the same effect on the
body?

6- Predict how neurotransmitters will help us explain about the brains reaction to drugs
and how people with chemical imbalances develop psychological disorders.

7- Choose one of the structures in the brain, Explain its function and Defend why it is the
most important to human behavior (this can be interpreted in many different ways).
