Here's what we're learning this week:

Turn over for more information

Reading: This week we will continue to compare and contrast schools around the world, using
nonfiction text features to help us learn even more. Students have been intrigued by the
differences in schools around the world, compared to west Michigan.
Phonics: We did not get through as much as I was hoping for phonics last week, so we will
work on ending t blends this week. (-ct, -ft, -nt, -pt, -st, and xt)
Writing: We will continue working on Authors Craft which is one of my favorite writing
units. Students study what good authors do and use it in their own small moment stories.
Students learn to use ellipsis, bold words, quotation marks, sound effects, as well as many
more.
Math: We will continue working on place value and learn about grouping tens and ones in
order to solve math equations.
Social Studies/Science: This week we will review scarcity and choice. Then we will move onto
discussing coins and their values. We have been singing songs about coins all year, so I am
hopeful that this will help this part of the unit.
Other news:

Star of the Day: Students may bring in one show n tell for this round of star of the
day.

Expo Markers: We use expo markers almost daily in class and are running a little low.
If you are willing to get some that would be great! Black markers are preferred.

NGFA Family Night: Coming February 17more info to come

Wet and Cold: Please make sure that your student is coming prepared for the
weather. There are very few times that students do not go out for recess, so please
send them daily with a hat, gloves, jacket, snow pants, and boots.
