In Our Classroom
Writing: We will continue to work on writing a complete paragraph in our how-to unit.
Students should be able to begin their paragraphs with a topic sentence and a closing
sentence. They should also be able to connect their steps using transitional words such as
first, next, then, after that, last, and finally. Students should still be using green, yellow, and
red to check that they have begun their sentence with a capital, spelled sight words correctly,
and ended with a punctuation mark.
Reading: We will continue to work on visualizing as we read. Students will also continued to
be assessed to determine their current reading level during guided reading time. Continue
reading at home with your child and have them practice retelling a story with a focus on
recalling details, character names, and retelling in the correct sequence.
Math: We will continue working on our addition and subtraction fluency. Create addition flash
cards adding numbers 0-10 and practice answering them correctly as quickly as possible. For
more of a challenge, try making subtraction cards as well. For an even greater challenge, try
mixing them up! We will also be working on solving word problems that require students to
add 3 numbers to solve.
Science: We will be wrapping up our unit on liquids. Have some fun with liquids at home by
allowing your child to describe, touch, taste different liquids at home.
