My Philosophy of Education

For my future classroom, I envision an environment that is safe

and mentally stimulating for my students, while allowing the utilization

of life skills that will help prepare them for problems they will face in

the real world. Creating lessons that will actively involve students in

hands-on activities, as well as having them conduct their own

investigations and become engaged in the material, are core elements

to my philosophy. The abilities to process lectures and take notes are

good skills to have, but I also want my students to realize that

communication is key to their future success. My philosophy would

definitely fit into a more Progressive perspective.

As my major is Learning Disabilities, I plan on meeting students

where they are and understanding each individuals strengths and

weaknesses in a way that promotes growth. Community building is

important for myself and for my students, especially in teaching them

how to be responsible and functioning members of society. Students

with disabilities are entitled just as any other student to reach their

maximum potential. With patience and honesty, I will be goal-oriented

in tackling any obstacles that come our way. Building community and

teamwork with the students is a primary technique that will strengthen

the students confidence and push them to succeed socially and

academically.

I will be receptive to my students, their parents, and my

colleagues in order to continually take all criticism and be open for

improvement based on feedback. It is important that teachers are

receptive to not just how we can impact our students, but also the way

that our students can impact and change our lives.
