WORK METHOD STATEMENT

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this Work Method Statement is to define the

recommended procedures for the water testing of the roof
sheeting.

METHOD STATEMENT

There is really no better way of water testing a roof than actual

rainfall, as to simulate even fall or windblown rain is impossible.

If medium to heavy rain has fallen after completion of roofing, and

no leakage is visible then the roof should be considered tested
and satisfactory. If the roofing has been done during a dry season
and testing is required then the following test can be carried out:-

A 25mm to 30mm diameter hose fitted with fog nozzle with

sufficient main pressure or a water tank with electric pump is
required to carry out the water testing. Two testing can be done.

1) The pipe with the fog nozzle need to be positioned at the ridge
location or at the highest point in the roof and the water should
cascade through the low ribs or the valley locations. The hose
should not be deliberately directed towards the sheet end laps or
flashing location since it will damage the sheets.

2) The second and longer test can be carried out if desired by

attaching a rotary garden sprinkler to the hose and allow the
whole roof to be systematically watered. This is the nearest
method of stimulating rainfall as the sprinkler system cause the
water to bounce, thus finding any weakness in lap conditions.
