b)Inspection shall be conducted on all materials issued for job execution

c)Resin, catalyst & styrene shall be stored in stored maintained room at
20-25°C and segregated from any other materials
c)Chopped Strand Mat & Woven Roving shall be stored in a close room to avoid
dust, damp & direct sunlight
d)In field all lamination materials shall be kept in shade place or in shelter
2. Site Preparation
a) Prior to repair activities line shall be isolated by operation to prevent liquid
seepage to the joint. This can be verified with the field operator on duty.
b) Take necessary safety precautions to ensure a safe working environment as
stated in the risk assessment and must be communicated to all involve worker.
c) Prepare/Arrange all the materials, tools, equipment and supplies required for
installation.
d) Ensure that the scaffolding and excavation is enough prior to commence the
repair activities.
3. Repair Methodology:
A. Preliminary Arrangement
a) Take necessary safety precautions to ensure a safe working environment as
stated in the risk assessment and must be communicated to all involve worker.
b) Prepare/Arrange all the materials, tools and equipment required for
fabrication.
c) Prior to fabrication activities, check all the required materials such as
grp rings, resins, CSM, & etc. as per job specification.
d) Verify the dimension of manhole to be cut in accordance to achieve the
recommended height.
e) Marked section will be cut straight perpendicular to the manhole axis with
Rotary disc grinder with carborundum cutting wheel.
B. Surface Preparation
a) Prepare the edge of the manhole and rings ends by grinding using 40-60 grind
emery disc to remove any shiny surface, creating a tapered surface of 1:6. This
step shall be applied on the edges of the all rings and manholes to be positioned
on the gap prior to start lamination.
c) The grinding should extend at least ½” beyond the widest layer of joint.
d) The maximum depth of grinding should be within 0.3-1.0mm depth from top
layer.
e) Remove all surface glazes, paint, oil, grease, scale, moisture, or other
foreign material to ensure proper bonding of the resin material to the surface.

f) Wipe the ground areas with clean solvent / cloth to remove the collected dust
and any surface moisture
g) Ensure prepared surface area is cleaned, dry and free of dust prior for
lamination.
4. Assembly of manholes and rings using Butt-Wrap Lamination
a) Once the surface is ready for the lamination then proceed for the alignment
of manholes and rings.
b) Align each pipes and fittings for joint correctly with approximately 3-10 mm
root gap for lamination.
c) Align properly by adjusting the pipe and until required levelness achieved &
accurate dimension.
d) Before commence for lamination ensure the ends of the pipes and fittings are
squared and aligned perfectly.
e) Upon securing the required alignment, squared edges and dimension then
proceed for lamination.
f) Upon securing the position of the new spool, proceed on applying the putty
on the gap, completely filling it with no visible trace of void or hollows. Allow to
harden and dry.
g) Once the putty is cured commence the lamination.
h) Lamination should be avoided in foggy conditions when temperature ≤22°C
and humidity is ≥ 75. And, lamination should be avoided at high temperature
(temperature ≥ 40°C)
i) Lamination activities shall not stop in between unless the resin cured. If resin
is cured before completion of required number of layers, the activities shall be
stopped until the joint cured completely (it will take approximately 1 hour), and
the balance number of layers shall be completed after preparing the surface.
j) Mix manually the resin and hardener in a clean dry plastic bucket using a
clean and dry wooden stick as per quantity specified in recipe to maintain the
right ratio.
k) The lamination kits of this repair includes resin, Catalyst, Woven roving, CSM
and top tape
l) Each layer of consists of one full wrap of woven roving impregnated with
resin.
m) Joint lamination for each joint is divided in two part;
m.1 Application of fit-up layers
i. The functions of the fit layer are, firstly to ensure proper positioning and
secondly, to create a seal (see Fig. below).

ii. Lamination should be avoided in foggy conditions and when

temperature ≤5°C or ≥40°C and humidity is ≥ 85
iii. Mix the resin and catalyst as per the quantities specified in the recipe to
maintain the right ratio.
iv. Impregnate by lamb wool roller the roughened area with the above mixture.
v. Apply woven roving glass in layers as mentioned in the recipe with a 50%
minimum overlap between each two consecutive windings so that wrapping the
full surface will end up with two layers of glass.
vi. Impregnate by lamb wool roller with the above mixture on wrapping of each
layer of woven glass.
vii. Evenly press the each layers of woven roving by lamp wool roller to
flush/remove air traps & white marks.
viii. Wait till the lamination is cured under ambient temperature. After fit
laminate, gel time is 1 to 2 hour depends on temperature.
ix. Once the fit laminate is tack free, then proceed for application of
reinforcement layer.
m.2 Application of Reinforcement layers
i. Measure and mark the bond length as specified in the attached recipe on each
pipe from the middle of the fit layer.
ii. Grind the cured fit laminate + the ring as per the mark bonding length by
grinder until the pipe glass fiber are exposed in order to roughen the pipe
surface to have good bonding prior for main laminate.
iii. Clean this area by dry clean cloth or paintbrush and ensure that it is fully dry.
iv. Mix the resin, catalyst and delayer as per the quantities specified in the
recipe to maintain the right ratio.
v. Impregnate by lamp wool roller the roughened area of the above area with
the mixture.
vi. Apply required numbers of layers of woven roving glass of various sizes
as mentioned in applicable recipe with a 50% minimum overlap between
each two consecutive windings so that wrapping the full surface will end up
with two layers of glass.
vii. Impregnate by lamb wool roller the above layers with the resin/catalyst
mixture.
viii. Evenly press the surface layers by lamb wool roller to flush/remove air traps
& white marks.
ix. Repeat the above three steps till the required number of layers is applied as
specified.

x. Wind 2 layers of top tape glass around the laminate to extract the excess
quantity of resin and to provide smooth surface.
xi. The joint is undisturbed until it cures under ambient temperature. The
curing time varies between 16 to 24 hours depending on the sunlight exposure
and temperature
Note: No Laminating machine involve. All activities will be executed outside the
manhole no Confined Space Entry will be involved.
5. Pressure test:
After completion of all activities at site, service test of line shall be carried out at
operating pressure.
