 Designing and designating a small section of the formwork as a loading


flat form to load ply and other components.
 Ensuring mechanical aids are used to handle loads wherever possible.
 Material shall not to be exposed to the fire or naked flames in any
circumstances.
 Storing loads or trolleys to minimize double handling or on raised
platform to minimize manual lifting from ground level.
 Having adequate storage space or lay down area to safety materials
and equipment and to minimize double handling.
 Only a limited required quantity of formworks / false works,
scaffolding and wood planks materials shall be brought to the site.

2. PLANNING FOR FORMWORK AND FALSE WORKS ACTIVITY;


 Formworks and false works activity should be carefully planned before
work starts so it can be carried out safely planning involves identifying the
hazards, assessing the risks and determining appropriate control
measures in consultation will all relevant persons involved in the work
including the principal contractor, formworks /false works contractor,
RTCC Engineer and Royal Commission consultant.
 Availability of formworks / false works will be checked with the
 procurement manager and decision will be taken to buy, hire or reuse
Formworks / false works materials.
 During the fabrication of formworks / false works shutters, all
dimension shall be cross checking with a view to avoiding corrective
action during erection.
 Paint reference number on all panels to ensure their use in correct
positions.
 Ensure that the props, shore, waling, bearers, clamps and the rods are the
right size and at the correct spacing the formworks engineer and safety
engineer shall check the false work system with respect to respect to load
imposed on it and design parameters as laid down in the specification.
 Check that the false works is securely braced and is on a firm
foundation.
 Forms fastened to previously cast concrete must be tightly fixed to
prevent grout loss cellular foam plastic strips can be used to make a
seal.
 Check quality of shutter lining, tightness of bolts and wedges built-in
items inserts
 Tie rod holes to be made in the formworks shall be neat so that they
can be patched or plugged later on.
 Particular attention will be paid to the rigidity and line of stop ends and
joint formers.

 Remove all the wire clippings and nail which may stain both the
formworks and the concrete.
 Ensure that adequate access and working platforms are in place for the
concreting and that toe board and guardrail are provided.
 Adjustable steel props shall be erected in plumb and vertically of props
checking using spirit level.
 A props should not be used if it is bent creased or rusted or has a bend
head or base plate, damaged pin etc.
 Proper release of agent shall be used so that it can be removed without
damaging the surface finish of the concrete.
 New timber and plywood forms shall be given first coat of the
appropriate release agent 36 hours advance, then a second coat just
before they are used avoid excessive use of release agent as this can
cause staining or retardation of the concrete.
 A close watch should be kept on all wedges and fastenings make sure
that they do not work loose grout loss is on indication that some
movement has occurred.
 When unseeded tie bars are being used, ease them slightly before the
 concrete sets and remove them as soon as it is safe.

3. STRIKING the WORKS;


 Always obtain approval before striking the formworks in the form.
 Ensure adequate safety measures while striking formworks.
 Cleaning the face of the form shall start as soon as they have been
struck.
 Good storage is essential to ensure that formworks can be used again.
 Paint code number on them so that they can be readily identified
when next needed.

Emergency Procedure:

1. At the first instance of incident worker should report directly to the foreman, safety officers, nurse or
to the engineer in charge.
2. Stay calm and do not panic.
3. While waiting if situation requires and does not affect the integrity of the patient, bring him in the
clear and fresh area.
4. Do not attempt to help or rescue if not trained or not ask to do so.
5. Do not block at anytime, make the path accessible for the rescue.
6. Upon the arrival of the rescue team, do not interrupt or attempt to help if you are not ask to do it.
