Identifying Prepositional Phrases and the Object of the Preposition

Purpose: This will help you identify prepositional phrases in your own writing, so that you can see if you are
using too many. Keeping a reasonable amount of prepositional phrases in your writing can help the sentences be
more clear and concise. We will be practicing trimming down unnecessary prepositional phrases in a later
lesson, so keep your notes.

Instructions: In the sentences below, label the prepositional phrase and the object of the preposition. Then, in
groups of three, you will create your own sentence and identify the same parts of it as before on the board.

1. The book on the bathroom floor is swollen from shower steam.

2. The note from Beverly confessed that she had eaten the leftover pizza.

3. Freddy is stiff from yesterday's long football practice.

4. Before class, Josh begged his friends for a pencil.

5. The sweet potatoes in the vegetable bin are green with mold.
