Presidents Corner
Iota Sisters,
Can you believe that its August and students, teachers, and administrators are already
back in school? On the other hand, we have a few weeks of summer remaining since autumn
doesnt officially begin until September 22.
Iota members attending Xi State Convention in June returned home with many awards
recognizing our accomplishments of last year. Brenda Moriarty received her Order of the Rose
honor, Cathy Anderson served as a flag bearer, and Rosemary Smith and Kathryn Lockett
were remembered at the Ceremony of Remembrance.
Your Executive Committee met in early July, and along with the Program Committee,
has been diligently planning an exciting array of programs for this year.
As you know, our own Joy Branham is no longer serving as Area 1 Director. Our new
Area 1 Director is Pam Egeler from Alpha Alpha Chapter. We also have a new Xi State
President for the 2017-2019 biennium, Dr. Elaine Alexander. Her theme is: Explore-Dream-
Discover, Your Adventure Awaits. Both of these ladies will be invited to join us for a meeting
sometime this year.
Our first project of the year will again be to return to the Appalachian Fair in Gray, TN
the week of August 21-26 to man the Imagination Library booth for six days. Many thanks to
Betty White, the Literacy Committee, and the 12 members and 3 spouses that have volunteered
to set up the booth and register children for Books from Birth.
Now tell mewhats more fun than a picnic? For our first meeting, we are returning to
the traditional Iota picnic. Mark your calendars now. We will have a covered dish picnic on
Thursday, August 31 at 5:30 p.m. at the Eastman Recreational Area, Shelter #27. Our honored
guest will be Representative John Crawford, 1st House District. Representative Crawford will
be giving a few remarks concerning upcoming legislation. He graciously met with us during
Legislative Symposium last February and has a strong interest in education. Members should
bring a covered dish or dessert. Hostess Group 1 will be in charge of the inspiration, decorations,
paper products, drinks and ice.
Its going to be another great year for Iota Chapter! Hope to see everyone at the August
31 picnic including our four newest members: Casey Bedford, Dicey Ford, Beth Gilbert, and
Lisa Holt. Invite a perspective new member to come along.
For aye,
Jane
