Course Contract

I hope you and your family had an enjoyable summer. I look forward to making this a great year!
Please read the expectations and requirements for AVID 7, and then sign and return only the second-page
portion of the contract. Hold onto this first page for easy reference.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) 7 Course Description:
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is designed to support students, particularly those in the
academic middle, so that they can attend college and achieve their fullest potential. AVID supports
its students by teaching and reinforcing specic study and organizational skills, encouraging students to
take more rigorous and challenging classes, providing skills necessary to succeed in college and
ultimately preparing them for success at a four-year university/college. AVID students have skilled tutors, often
college students studying to be teachers or studying one of the major subject areas. Projects are rich in
content, cooperative learning and applications that simulate the real world.

Required Materials
A 2 OR 2 OR 3 three ring binder is REQUIRED and must be brought to class daily. NO SPIRAL
NOTEBOOKS, PLEASE.
1-pack of binder dividers A blue or black ink pen is needed DAILY.
1 binder pencil pouch A highlighter is needed DAILY.
Grading Policy
Summative Assessments 50%
Formative Assessments 40%
Homework/ Participation 10%

Guarantee of Success
Students are expected to Be Safe
Students are expected to Be Responsible
Students are expected to Be Respectful
Students are expected to come to class each day on time and prepared with the necessary materials.
Students are expected to listen attentively, follow directions, participate in discussions, and behave appropriately.
Students are responsible to make up missed work when absent and follow up with me upon return to class.
Students are expected to regularly monitor class website for homework or missing work when absent.
Cell phones, iPods, and other electronic devices are NOT permitted in class.
Missing and Late Assignments
If a student is absent, he/she must check the class website for missed assignments. The student can
ALWAYS check in with me as well.
Late assignments will lose five points for each day late up to three days late.
Assignments more than three days late will result in a zero.
Remember, a positive attitude and genuine effort count!
