Goal/Objective To bolster a student's self control and ability to

manage themselves both personally and in the
classroom environment through direction and
positive reinforcement i.e. rewards and patience.
When to use this strategy There are two environments to apply this idea,
inside the classroom to minimize interruptions
and promote work, and outside to prevent
problems starting or mischief happening.
Step by step instruction- How to use this in a This passage can be used in a Science class to
Science classroom. You will partner with a uphold self control and management allowing for
classmate to teach them your strategy so be interactive activities
explicit and provide a sample for your partner.
1. Allowing a chaotic student to handle
experiments is a huge health risk, so the
first step is to offer reason and
encouragement for the student(s) in
question towards a positive and
constructive level of emotion. This can be
done through either the offer of rewards,
one on one time with a patient teacher,
or even discussing with the student
special arrangements that can be made
in the lab.
2. Assuming the student agrees to any of
the previous ideas, the next step is to
implement and grow them over time.
This can be by slowly progressing to the
reward of allowing the student to
participate in a lab (preferably before the
first lab occurs), allowing them to handle
certain parts of a lab, or even performing
the lab in tandem with the student.
3. A student can be used in place of a
teacher, but it is vital that the teacher be
involved in a key point.
4. As more time passes if the student shows
improvement the method can continue,
if there are still issues then the teacher
must rely on their personal judgment and
how well they understand the student to
offer alternate paths that might better
connect with the student.
Assessment- How could this strategy be used to While the strategy seems simple of even not
evaluate student learning? catered towards students with EBD it turns out
that something this simple can actually be highly
effective. This strategy is not limited to problem
students who are just an issue in their natural
attitude, but also to students who have long
standing disability with their emotions. The idea
is that through this strategy the teacher can
closer observe the student, their willingness to
comply and improve, and be able to better
appraise them as an individual in the classroom
setting.
