The Mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, Cllr Johannes Phokane and
The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, Cllr Stanley Keamotseng
Ramaila were part of the Pink Walk for Cancer that was held at Thaba Moshate
Casino last Saturday.
The aim of the walk was to sensitise the community at large about the danger
of cancer and also to raise funds for those who are affected by the disease. Fetak-
gomo Greater Tubatse Municipality and Thaba Moshate joined forces to make a
success of the project and more than jmore than 800 community members man-
aged to attend the walk.
Amongst the athletes were Councillors, Thaba Moshate General Manager,

Peter Tshidi, Acting Municipal Manager of FGTM ,Petience Busane, Health District
manager Linah Maepa, FGTM employees, local runners, children and people with
disabilities.
In his speech the Mayor of FGTM Cllr Phokane encouraged people to assist
each other in fighting the disease. Executive Mayor Ramaila thanked the commu-
nity for taking part and taking the Pink Walk very serious.

but also to local as well as regional economies and the economy in general. Unemploy-
ment brings along high levels poverty and with the historical structure of our economy we
still live in very highly unequal societies, he stressed.
Nhleko highlighted that South Africa is a youthful country, hence it is imperative for
young people to fully participate and play their roles to ensure that the successful drive
toward achieving radical economic transformation (RET).
He said that the initiative requires open minded members of our society particularly
youth, who take future seriously and embrace the concept of RET and realized the con-
sequences of this phase of our democracy.
Political freedom alone is meaningless if economic freedom is not achieved, he
underscored.
Nhleko maintained that skills development and mentoring in the built environment will
be required to assist government and the country in innovative and cost effective ways to
make South Africa a better place.
