a t u r e a c c i d e n t l y r o s e t o 37.2 C, On a r r i v a l , eggs on b e r r i e d
females were y e l l o w i s h t o g r a y , and were eyed. I n t h e c o n d i t i o n e d
freshwater o f t h e a q u a r i a , l a r v a e w e r e o f f e r e d egg y o l k , minced f i s h
flesh and p l a n k t o n a s recommended by Ling (1968b) f o r g. r o s e n b e r g i i .
Since it was s t r o n g l y b e l i e v e d by P a n a m n i a n p e r s o n n e l t h a t t h e
l o c a l p o p u l a t i o n o f g. Americanum was a n i s o l a t e d group s u s t a i n e d
i n f r e s h w a t e r , t h e aquarium environment was not i n i t i a l l y a l t e r e d
with s a l t . The i n i t i a l l y v i g o u r o u s , p h o t o t r o p i c l a r v a e g r a d u a l l y
became less a c t i v e , and u s u a l l y d i e d w i t h i n 24 h o u r s a f t e r h a t c h i n g
without e v i d e n c e o f having t a k e n any of t h e foods o f f e r e d ,

1,25 m B ~ It was noted t h a t c a t c h g e n e r a l l y i n c r e a s e d d u r i n g t h e
r a i n y s e a s o n of May t o November and reached a low i n J a n u a r y o f t h e
d r y season. Catch a g a i n i n c r e a s e d a s r a i n y s e a s o n approached and
temperature decreased.
