Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

In order to transfer to NSC in pursuit of my Bachelor’s degree in education, I must pass

the Praxis Core Exam. The passing scores for the Praxis Core Exam in Nevada are as

followed: Reading- 156, Writing- 162, and Math- 150.

Exam Preparation

I prepared for the Praxis Core exam by reading the Nevada Department of Education

Praxis requirements, Praxis Core exam information, Praxis preparation for writing,

reading, and math links that were provided in our module. I did not look into Khan

Academy Math or the Praxis Core practice tests and video links that were offered. I did

not complete any of the practice questions from ETS. To be honest, I completely

underestimated the difficulty and content of the Praxis Core exam. I knew I would do

poorly in Math but assumed I would excel in Reading and Writing.

Exam Results

In Math, I scored in the 32% range, which means I need significant improvement in order

to pass when I take the official Praxis Core Exam. In Reading, I scored in the 48% range,

which means I need significant improvement in order to pass when I take the official

Praxis Core Exam. In Writing, I scored in the 43% range, which means I need significant

improvement in order to pass when I take the official Praxis Core Exam.

Future Exam Preparation

Now that I have experienced the practice Praxis Core exam, and understand the level of

difficulty, the most important thing I can do in order to pass is have self-discipline. I need

to dedicate time to actually prepare and use the resources that are available to me. At this

point, I know I will need to use ED Ready for math and take the Praxis Core Review

courses at CSN. I plan on purchasing “Praxis Core for Dummies,” taking the practice

Praxis Core exam again, and if needed I will need to work with a tutor.
