We have a number of parents who
have come forward to offer their
help with listening to children read.
I know that it will have a positive
impact on children’s reading ability,
but also with the children’s
confidence.
Early Years Outdoor Area
Thank you also to the parents of
children in our current Reception
class who came to school on
Saturday and did a great job
clearing the old astro-turf, rotten
raised beds, etc from the outside
area. Work has started at a pace
this week with the area hopefully
ready for the children to use after
the holidays. Mrs Forsyth has a big
list of resources that she is wanting
to buy for the area – she is already
planning the next fundraising
activity!
PTA Events
We are always grateful for the
support that you as parents give the
school to organise and run events
not only to raise money for our
children, but also to help support
the feeling of community and being
part of a group. There is a strong
group of parents who form the core
of the PTA – they are very happy to
continue to lead the team forward,
however they (and I include myself
in this) are very concerned with the
relatively small group of parents
who come forward to volunteer
help to organise and run the
events. My apologies to all the
parents who support the school in
so many ways if you feel this view is
unfair, however, when it comes to
getting events off the ground and
organised, this is what we see.
The next main event is the eagerly
anticipated ‘Summer Fair and
Family Camp Over’. We are
Spring Term 2018

concerned that we won’t have
enough parents to get this event off
the ground – we know how many
parents will be disappointed with
this, for all sorts of reasons.
So, I am putting out a plea – I am
asking the same group of people,
that I know I already ask a lot of, to
consider if you have time to help
us. We have a meeting planned for
Wednesday 2nd May at 4.30pm in
school where we would like to get
the Fair and Camp Over planned
and assign tasks to share the load.
As an incentive, ‘early bird tickets’
will be available for families for the
Camp Over (£20 per pitch), before
the general release of tickets to the
rest of the school. If you can’t make
the meeting due to other
commitments, but would like to
have been there and would still like
to be part of the team, please
email: mail@sandiwaypta.org.uk
and we will make sure that you are
involved. If child-care is an issue for
you, please bring your children
along – we will set up a room where
they will be entertained and looked
after.
Last year was such a successful
event and the Family Camp Over
was amazing – we would like to
surpass this feeling of success to
the next level. We would also like
parents to feel very much part of
the strong team to have a real
sense of achievement and pride in
what has been achieved.
Easter Activities
Just a quick reminder: on the last
day of term (Thursday 29th March)
Year 3 and Year 4 children will be
sharing the Easter story with
readings and songs. The service will
take place in St John’s Church from
2.30pm – all parents are welcome.
Children will walk back to school
after the service to be collected in
the normal way.
Clubs Next term
These have now been collated in
school and I will have these
available on a Wiki over the Easter
holidays. To sign up, please log into
the school website as your child
and fill in the table under ‘Wikis’.
School clubs will be starting the
SECOND week back – this will give
you chance to contact the school
office if you are unable to access
the Wiki.
Weaverham High School Music
Festival
Well done to the choir for an
amazing performance last night –
thanks to Mrs Tucker and Mrs
Elliott they have been practising
hard for the past weeks to produce
a highly polished performance!
