At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

c. Appreciate the importance of food chain in an ecosystem

B. Lesson Proper

A. Activity

Do you still remember what is food chain? Yes Mam!

The students will be divided into five groups and will


be shown pictures and they will arrange it properly to form
a food chain.

B. Analysis

What is food chain?

Do you think food chain can only be formed with Yes Mam!
terrestrial organism?

Well, it can be formed also with marine organisms,


freshwater organisms and forest organisms.

C. Abstraction

*Food Chain – a series types of living organisms in


which each one uses the next lower member of the series
as a source of food

*Producer – an organism that makes it own food from


light energy using photosynthesis. It is the base of the food
chain.

Examples: green plants, protists and bacteria

*Consumer – a living thing that eats other living things


to survive. It cannot make its own food.

Consumer may be classified into three categories namely:

a) Herbivores – animals that eat plants


b) Carnivores – animals that eat meat
c) Omnivores – animals that eat both plants and
animals

*Decomposer – an organism that breaks down


organic matter.

Examples: fungi, bacteria, and worms

D. Application

The students will be divided into five groups and will


construct their own food chain using the manila paper.
After doing this, write your conclusion then present it in
the class.

E. Assessment

Identify the following words being described.

1. An organism that makes it own food

2. Animals that eat both plants and animals producer


3. An organism that breaks down organic matter omnivores
4. A living thing that eats other living things to survive decomposer
5. A series of types of living things in which each one consumer
uses the next lower member of the series as a source
of food food chain

F. Assignment

Through a drawing, present the importance of food chain


in an ecosystem.
