Pe Activity The class begins by the teacher showing the
dag students each of the 7 continents on a map and
ogy discussing some of their geographical features (i.e.
mountains, lakes). After talking about the contents
broadly the teacher will then go into depth about 5
continents and describe some of their major
geographical markers. The teacher will discuss
very detailedly about the individual mountain
ranges on these continents , the major rivers on
these continents, and the major bodies of water
that surround these continents. After she discusses
all of the major markers on the continents each
child will get there iPads out and pick any 1 of the
5 continents discussed. The student will draw the
continent on the iPad using Adobe illustrator
Draw. Each student must include the following in
their drawings:
1. Continent
a) Drawn, labeled, and colored.
2. Bodies of water surrounding the continent
a) Drawn, labeled, and colored
3. Major mountain ranges
a) Drawn, labeled, and colored
4. Major rivers
a) Drawn, labeled and colored.
5. Any other significant geographical features
a) Drawn, labeled, and colored
After the students complete their drawings they
will submit them to the teacher for grading.
Grading will be based on accuracy and
understanding, not artistic ability. The teacher will
also present the drawings to the class to review all
the information they have learned about each
individual area.
*There will be maps and globes available to use for
references. Students can also use books or ask the
teacher for help.
The class will begin by the teacher explaining the
important events that took place in our state. She will
discuss the individuals that contributed to the
settlement of Jamestown, and what there significance is.
The teacher will talk about all the goods and services
that Jamestown had to offer the citizens back in
historical times and then goods they can offer the
citizens today. After the teacher has discussed these
facts she will divide the classroom into small groups of
3-4 kids. Each child will get their own individual iPad
and they will create a collaborative presentation using
Haiku Deck. Every group member must contribute to
the presentation. Each member will describe and
discuss the significance of the part that have chosen to
add in their group presentation. Each group must
contain the following information:
1. A person of significance in the History of Jamestown.
a) Who they are
b) What they did
c) What role did they play in Jamestown
2. A good or service that Jamestown offered when first
established
a) Name of the good or service
b) Why is/has this good or service been valuable to
history?
3. Is the good or service discussed still offered in todays
time?
a) Has the good or service been used since the
establishment?
b) Do we use this good or service in everyday life?
After the students have constructed their presentations
they will present them to the rest of the class with help
from the teacher. The group members will also let the
teacher known which part of the presentation they
added.
*The students can use books and each other for help.
The teacher will also be available for questions.
