The Executive Problem

● Many executives are out of

balance.
○ You don’t own your schedule.
○ You may not have the right structure
or boundaries in life.
○ You're trying to accomplish too much
in a short period of time.

● When it goes on for too long, this

leads to burnout.

OPTIMIZING PERFORMANCE

Setting Boundaries
#StrategicMomentumPodcast
Reframing: Disrupting Old Habits

• Break the mindset of “this is the way I've always done it.”
• If you are rigid, you run into the same limitations and challenges
that occurred in the past.
• Reframe your perspective to focus on what is needed to
achieve the desired result. And make sure what the company
wants is what you want.
• New leadership should not just pick up the baton where the old
leadership left off. Come in with something that will work
better.

Knowing When to Turn Off
“In baseball, as soon as your bat is over, you get to relax and refuel
until your next turn.”

• Trying to accomplish too much in a short period leads to

compromising oneself.
• Learn: Less is more. You need time to stop and digest to sustain
focus. Stay focused for 90 minutes at a time, then take a break.
• When you're engaged, be engaged. When you're not, you can
pull back.

Creating a Routine & Structure

How Baseball Greats become Great

• They build a routine

trust that routine.
• They know it’s going to bring out
their best through thick and thin.
• In times of struggle, they lean on
their routine.
• They don't look outside for
externals that can cause
confusion.

Build in Your Transitions

Break your routine down to many small steps with built-in

transitions.
Do your morning routine: do your cardiovascular, do stretching,

eat well.

Give yourself an appropriate lunch break where you take time

AFTERNOON for yourself. Avoid eating and meeting and talking on the phone
at the same time.

Reset when you transition between work and home with another
EVENING
routine. Keep it simple.

Invest in the Long-Game

• Trust that you will achieve

momentum through small actions
and small victories.
• Winning increases confidence,
which leads to self-satisfaction
• Play the long-game and stay
consistent throughout.
• If you are chopping every day,
you’ll be a winner in the end.

OPTIMIZING PERFORMANCE

Balancing Head, Heart & Gut

#StrategicMomentumPodcast
Be Data and Gut-Driven

• Numbers tend to drive everything

in business, but they should really
provide the baseline. Never
forgot the people behind the
numbers.
• You want a combination of
numbers and gut. It can’t be all
one or the other.
• Without a balance, it is difficult to
optimize performance.

Listen to Your Team

• As a manager, you need to know

who you’re managing – it’s
important to not lose sight of the
person and what may be going on
in their life.
• They are more than numbers and
stats. Without that context,
you're never going to be able to
lead and manage effectively.

Be Human and Create Connections

the numbers, we lose
