The plans show the modifications that a university would like to make to its art
gallery. The image on the top shows the art gallery as it is at present and the image
below that shows the art gallery once the renovations have been completed.

As can be seen from the first image, the current entrance to the gallery is on the
right-hand side of the building and visitors pass through a large lobby before
entering the gallery itself. One of the proposed changes is to allow entrance on to
the main exhibition area, where an existing entrance will be widened. At present,
the exhibition rooms are divided into three separate areas. According to the plans,
the dividing walls will be removed and one large exhibition space will be created. Art
can then be displayed on the walls around the room as well as on a large central
wall.

A further major change is to an area on the far left of the building that is used as an
office at present. This area is currently divided into small rooms but will be opened
up to create one large exhibition space. In addition, the gallery will gain an education
centre. This area will replace the existing lobby, which will also be enlarged to create
a more functional space with a large table and seating. If these plans are carried out,
then not only will the art gallery increase the exhibition areas but will also gain an
educational facility. Relocating the entrance to the gallery will give visitors an
immediate view of the main exhibition areas. ( 265 words)
b. Bar charts
The chart gives information about the kinds of leisure activity engaged in by three
distinct groups: native Australians, recently arrived immigrants from English-
speaking countries and new migrants for whom English is not the first language in
their country.
The cinema is by far the most popular free-time activity listed in the chart for those
with English as their first language - 70 % of non - migrants and 65 % of English-
speaking migrants. Half the migrants from non-English- speaking countries also go to
see a film but interestingly, 5 % more of this group prefer the library to the cinema.
Roughly 40 % of the other two groups say they visit the library.

Zoos are visited most by half of the English-speaking migrants compared to just over
40 % of those born in Australia and approximately 35 % of the migrants born where
English is not widely spoken. The theatre is least popular for all concerned, with only
10 % of non - English- speaking migrants attending, while double the number of
native Australians go to see a play. A quarter of those born in English-speaking
countries are theatre-goers. Overall, it is perhaps unsurprising that Australians prefer
the cinema to the theatre, but the popularity of the library with new migrants may
reflect the financial circumstances of these new citizens. (212 words)

1. Task 2.3:
The map illustrates the proposed plan of a university art gallery. Overall, this art
gallery is likely to undergo some small changes of rearrangement with the set up of
functional areas.
At present, this art gallery has a big exhibition space in the middle with a seating
area behind it. To the left of the space, there is currently an office facing the lobby which is
located on the right of the map. The exhibition space can be accessed by a door from the
lobby.
In the future, the exhibition space will be enlarged and replace the existing office. On
the original site of the lobby, an education centre will be constructed and the position of
the entrance door will also be moved to other side. Meanwhile, the Mill Road and other
remaining features stay unchanged.
2. Exercise 2:
Apparently, with the rate of 50 percent, new migrants born in English - speaking
countries have visited the zoo 10 percent more than people born in Australia and 23
percent more than new migrants born in other countries.
Regarding to the library, the difference in proportion between groups of people who
visited it was quite significant. Noticeably, there was only 37 percent of people born in
Australia visited the library while the rate of new migrants born in other countries was
almost double.
The theatre was the most rarely visited place which has the total ratio was
approximately a half of that compared to the cinema. The range of people born in Australia
and new migrants born in other countries were 20 and 10 percent respectively.
Meanwhile, the graph indicates that cinema was the most popular location visited by
different individuals. The most visitors were people born in Australia which the percentage
was up to 70 percent. This was followed by new migrants born in English – speaking
countries with 65 percent and at the last place, there was 50 percent of new migrants
from other countries came to the cinema.

Exercise 1:
The maps illustrates what important changes that the proposed plan would be made to
the university art gallery. Generally speaking, these alteration will be done only to the
function of some areas within the building.
The most significant change is the expansion of exhibition space. For now, it is located in
the center of the block, between the lobby and the office; however, in the future, this space
has been expected to be enlarged to the left, which means the office will be converted into
exhibition area as well. Also, a through way will be opened to unite these two rooms.
Another substantial alteration worth mentioned would be made to the lobby in the right of
the building. According to the plan, in the future, an education center will replaced the
existing lobby and the doorway will be removed from the right to the front.
In summarise, the art gallery has been planned to undergo some remarkable adjustments
in the time to come.
Exercise 2:
The bar chart depicts the percentage of Australian citizens attracted to some specific sites.
According to it, the new migrants born in English-speaking territories have visited the zoo
15% higher than ones born in other countries and 10% more than people born in
Australia.
Similarly, the library has appealed roughly the same amount of people. Nevertheless, 55%
of folks who were given birth in non English speaking countries visit the library, which is
approximately 15% more than people born in the others, including Australia.
However, the indigenuos individuals are likely to visit the cinema. This is also the place, out
of three sites, that seems to be the most appealing to others people living in Australia with
the average percentage is up to 61%.
In contrast, theater rarely welcome guests as it only draws people eyes much less than the
cinema. In particular, just 10% of new migrants born in non English-speaking countries
come to theater whilst the percentage for similar range is 50%. Even in comparison with
the highest indicator of individuals coming to theater, which is migrant born in
English-speaking countries, 25% is still much smaller number than 65% of the same
subject visiting the cinema.
In conclusion, different people have distinguishing tastes for places to visit but it is
recognisable that cinema, in term of four location mentioned, has been the most attractive
site to all residents of Australia.

The maps illustrate the plan to innovate a university art gallery. Overall, the
composition of the building basically remains though there are many changes in the use of
space inside, especially exhibition ’s space.
The first significant change is that entrance will be remove to the Parkinson court
side of the building where people can walk straight ahead to the exhibition’s area instead
of going through lobby. Besides, the permanent exhibition space will expand nearly twice
as large as it is now because it will take the temporary exhibition ’s part.
Moreover, the space which is used for lobby and office at present will be replaced by
rooms for education and store comparatively. Especially, the place which isn’t part of
existing gallery will transform into special exhibition space. There will be a small exhibition
store in the left corner of the building. The space of Parkinson courts will still keep
unchanged as they are now.

Homework 1:

The diagram highlights expected changes to the art gallery of a university.
Overall, it is obvious to see that there are significant changes which will be made in
terms of the use of floor space in the gallery. In addition, there will be more space for
exhibition.
At present, visitors have to go through the doors that lead into the looby to access
the gallery. However, the lobby will be replaced by the education center. Moreover, the
proposed picture also shows that the current office area will be managed to close.
The exhibition space will be enlarged by closing office and using its space for art
gallery. Besides, it can be easily seen that the present exhibition is divided into three
rooms. But, the plan is to break down the walls and corporate it with managed office area
to get more space to exhibit.

Homework 1:
These pictures compare the layout of a university art gallery as it is at present with a
proposed design for the future. Overall, there will be some alterations to the left and right
areas, while the center area will almost remain unchanged.
Now, the center area is an exhibition space that is about half the size of this building. To
come in the exhibition space, there are two entrances – one at the front and one on the
right. There is a lobby linking the right door with the center area. The left of building is an
office area.
At the prospective design, the office will be made way for a new part of exhibition area.
This leads to the significant enlargement of exhibition space. Besides, the right way and
the lobby will be disappeared. The lobby will be replaced by a new education center with a
new door in front of it.

Homework 20/1:
1. Hà Thủy (Internet users as percentage of population):
The line graph compares the proportion of people who had accessed the Internet in
USA, Canada and Mexico during the period between 1999 and 2009.
Overall, the trend was obviously upward for all three selected countries over the
10-year period. It is clear that Americans and Canadians have much larger percentage of
people having Internet access while Mexicans witnessed the lowest rate.
In 1999, the rate of people using the Internet in the USA was about 20%, which
was the highest proportion among three countries this year. The figures for Canada and
Mexico were lower, at about 10% and 5% respectively. Over the period from 1999 to
2002, all three countries experienced growth in Internet use at different rates. The most
dramatic rise was seen in Canada, as the country overtook the USA with the percentage of
approximately 60%.
From 2002 onwards, the USA reached the same level as Canada three years later at
70%. On the other hand, Mexico maintained the slight increase amount, eventually
reaching about 40% Internet usage in 2009. At the same time, the percentage of Internet
users was highest in Canada with almost 100% of Canadians used the Internet. This d ata
was followed by Americans, with 80%.

Internet, at about 22(%).Whereas, the amount of Internet usage in two others were quite
low, just a half of USA in Canada, at about 10(%) and 5(%) in Mexico. In the first two
years, it’s noticeable that the proportion of Internet users in Canada rocketed and overtook
those of USA, at 46(%). Mexico show a steady rise, just over 26(%).
In the next three years, Internet usage in both Canada and USA rose to about
70(%), while the figure for Mexico reached just over 26(%). In 2009, the percentage of
people who access to Internet account for the highest number. Almost 100% of Canadians
used Internet compared to about 80(%) of America and 40(%) of Mexico.

The line chart illustrates the changes in crime rate in burglary, car theft and
robbery in Newport city center between 2003 and 2012

Generally speaking, all three kinds of crime are fluctuant trend. Car theft was
which had the most dramatic fluctuation, while robbery just had a slight fluctuation.
Especially, there had the lowest number of robbery in Newport.

It’s noticeable that there were about 3400 robberies taken place in 2003. The
number increase sharply in 2004, reach the peak at over 3750, then felt to its lowest point,
at 1200, in 2008. From 2008 onwards, it shows an up-down-up-down trend and stood at
1300 in 2012.

In 2003, car theft was 2800 and it was a steady level of crime to 2004 and
reduced in the next five years, from 2700 to 2250. The number then increased to 2700 in
2012 after a small fall.

Canada overtook USA and has been in the first place since then with over 50% of
citizen using Internet.
In particular, in 2005, USA and Canada had the same Internet users number at
60%, but this equality didn’t last long as Canada, out of the three countries, had
continued to take the lead over America to be the one own the most substantial
number of Internet usage in the next four years. In addition, in the year of 2005,
Mexico still had the lowest proportion of users at 30%.
At the end of the period, the highest number of internet users belongs to
Canada at approximately 100% of population. Additionally, 80% of American use
Internet and only about 40% of Mexican make use of the Internet.

The table illustrates the quantity of tourists coming to Ashdown Museum while the pie charts
show how much satisfaction they have had from their visits there during the year before and after
the museum refurbished.

It is clear that renovation had done a positive influence in increasing level of attraction of the
site. Although number of visitors are slightly increased from 74000 to 92000, their degree of
pleasant have been substantial improved.

Before refurbishment, percentage of very satisfied and satisfied tourists are 15% and 30%
respectively, whilst 40% of investigated people feel their visits are unsatisfactory. Particularly, 7400
tourists obtained major dissatisfaction from doing Ashdown Museum.

However, after being renovated, the museum has brought pleasant to three fourths of visitors.
The proportion of the disatisfacted also sharply decreases by 25% compared to the result of survey
year prior to reconstruction and people bear extremely disappointed with the expectation for the
updated museum fell down to 5%. Nevertheless, in both surveys, the percentage of no response
consistently accounts for 5%.

Overall, in the year after being refurbished, we can see that the numbers of
visitors (increased) considerably. Additionally, in that year, that satisfied visitors
dominated the field, explaining that refurbishment had done correctly.
Regarding the year before it was reconditioned, there (were) 74,000 tourists
visiting that museum, and half of them told that they were dissatisfied with their
experience. Besides, the proportion of visitors who felt (contented) is less than 5%, at
45%.
Moving to the year after refurbishment, the visitors rose to more than 90,000.
Furthermore, the percentage of tourists who were satisfied dominated three
quarters. This is significant in whom were dissatisfied, which decreased by 30% (

The  encouraging  development  of  medical  technology  has  well  served  to
prolong  the  human  longevity  in  many  countries.  In  this  essay,  I  will  discuss  about
the  advantage  and  disadvantage  of  increasing  life  expectancy.  In  my  opinion,  the
pros of this statement have outweighed the cons.
The  major  benefit  of  longer  lifespan  is  an  ageing  population  can  continue  to
contribute  to  their  family  in  particular.  Older  generation  might  not  be  able  to
support  their  children  in  term  of  income,  however,  under  some  circumstances,
seniors’  advice  could  be  worthy  of  attention.  For  example,  despite  the  gap  between
generation, our grandparents’ hints about how to treat people with the most suitable
courtesy  are  always  useful.  Not  only  that,  retired  people  with  good  physical  and
mental  health  will  have  more  opportunities  to  take  care  of  their  grandchildren  as  a
way  to  encourage  their  sons  or  daughters  to  gain  more  success  along  their  career
path.  Moreover,  increasing  life  expectancy  also  give  people  more  time  to  enjoy  the
wonderful  life  which  they  had  missed  due  to  being  engaged  in  getting  their  own
house in order.
However,  there  are  some  drawbacks  of  prolonging  human  lifespan  that  must
be  seriously  considered.  One  significant  problem  is  an  elderly  group  might  put  a
strain on the national economy as they can’t be in labour force but the social welfare
still  need  to  cover  a  considerable  amount  of  pension  and  health  care  fee  for  them.
As  a  result,  this  situation  might  become  an  obstacle  threatening  the  sustainable
development.  Unless  the  government  comes  up  with  a  solution  to  balance  the
number  among  age  groups  in  long  term,  many  countries  might  have  to  deal  with  a
major issue in the near future.
In  conclusion, from my own perspective, I believe that people living longer is a
pretty  good  sign  that  could  bring  an  array of positive influences to society as long as
we keep an eye and prepare answers to consequences that could come along with it.

Homework 18/02: Pros & Cons of the increase in life expectancy.

In  this  day  and  age,  thank  to  effective  medicine  and  modern  technology  that
life  expectancy  has  already  been  increasing  in  many  countries  around  the  world.
While  this  phenomenon  may  cause  some  disadvantages  to  nations  themselves,  I
contend that there are more benefits than its drawbacks.

There  are  several  reasons  that  I  argue  against  the  negatives  of  this issue. First
of  all,  it  helps  the  old  after  retiring  have  opportunities  to  enjoy  their  lives.  Because
the  workforce  have  to  work  8  hours  per  day,  and  they  might  work  overtime
occasionally.  Secondly,  this  problem  means  that  people  at  the  age  after  retirement
can  make up more time for that lost one to take care of their family. Finally, they are
able  to  guide  their  children to acquire various skills. From what they experienced in
their whole life, they can teach their relatives to be good-manner.

On  the  other  hand,  this  issue  also  leads  to  some  drawbacks.  It  would  have  a
bad  impact  on  the  development  of  the  nation's  sustainability.  Because  it means that
people  are  in  working-age getting decreased. Besides, governments have to use their
budget  to  pay  pension  to  the  retired,  and  the  number  of  them  is  increasing.
Furthermore,  not  everyone  can  enjoy  old  age  gracefully,  sometimes  one  can  get
weak. As result, it might put pressure on public services, even their family.

In  conclusion,  from  my  perspective,  although  some  disadvantages  can  come
along  with  the  increase  in  long  lifespan,  its  advantages  should  be  considered
carefully.

Quang Thái : Homework 18/02

The  lifespan  of  humans  has  gone  up  in  many  countries  around  the  world  that
has  recently  been  attracting  much  social  concern  for  a  long  time.  Some  people
believe it has many benefits but I think it creates many problems too.

It’s  the  fact  that  almost  everyone  wants  the  longevity.  People  has  their  own
wishfulness  and  often  wish  they  have  more  time  to  solve  the  problems or finish the
things  that  they  have  not  done  yet.  When  people  have  a  chance  to  live  longer  they
can  do  more  with  their  life.  Moreover  ,  life  expectancy  is  increasing  means  the
health  care  system  has  witnessed  many  great  advance.  If  people  has  a  better health
they  can  make  the  working  time  longer  ,  they  can  contribute  to  the  society  in many
aspects  like  economic  , culture and make money to their family to help the members
in their family have a better life.

However  ,  longevity  also  has  many  negative  aspects.  The  population  growth  is
what  I  put my priority in. when people live longer and the birthrate does not change
,  the  population  will  increase  fastly  .  It will require more spaces , jobs and resources
.  It  will  put  a  stress  on  the  governments  in  every  countries  .  The  younger  will  get
hard  to  find  a  job  .  The  completion  will  be  much  harder  because  of  the  lack  of
vacancy.  In  addition  ,  the  national  budget  in  many countries will be not enough for
the  homeless,  jobless  people  for  the  older  people  who  retired.  Needless  to  say  that
the elderly will face growing risk of poverty if the population keep going up.

In  conclusion,  longer  life  expectancy creates more problems than benefits as discuss
in the essay

Nowadays,  people  prefer  travelling  to  work to going to their place of work like
they  used  to  do  in  the  past  because  of  the  increase  in  the  use  of  computers,  the
Internet,  and  smartphones.  Then,  from  my  perspective,  I  think  this  issue  has  more
positives than its drawbacks.
There  are  some  benefits  that  should  be  considered  carefully.  First  of  all,  this
phenomenon  will  reduce  traffic  jams  in  big  cities  at  peak  hours.  What  is  more,
workers  do  not need to travel to work by any means of transport. Therefore, it could
help  minimize  the  number  of  pollutants  eliminated  by  vehicles.  Secondly,  workers
could  manage  their  own  schedule.  So  that  they  could  fix  it  to  be  convenient  for
them.  Finally,  people  can  save  time  and  money  due  to the expenses of meals as well
as  travelling.  For  example,  they  can  cook  at  home,  and  do  not have to go to work by
buses or cars.
This  problem  also  has  some  kinds  of  negatives,  however.  In  the  co-operative
place,  people  need  team  skills,  but  the  increase  in  working  from  home  prevents  the
workers  from  gaining  it.  The  less  time  working  together,  the  less  close  they  are.
Furthermore,  some  business  works  just  can  be  solved  by  a  team  sometimes.  As
result,  it  will  have  a  bad  impact  on  their  process  of  awarding  the  promotion.
Distractions  are  a  common  drawback,  that  can  easily  interrupt  a  person’s
concentration.  No  matter  how  hard  they  try,  there  will  usually  have  interference
from their family.
In  conclusion,  whilst  distance  working  can  cause  considerable  disadvantages
to  workers,  its  significant  benefits  are  undeniable  as  mentioned  in  this  essay.  So,  I
think these merits could outweigh the downside one.

Blooming  of  the  Internet  and  high  technology  has  significantly  impacted  on
every  side  of  how  people  could  carry  on  their  work  with  or  without coming to their
workplace.  From  my  perspective,  there  are  both  positives  and  negatives  of  distance
working, which are worth to be carefully considered.
On  one  hand,  the  major  advantage  of  working  from  home  is  that people
could  save  time,  energy  and  money.  It  is  quite  obvious  that  workers  do  not  have  to
spend  a  large  amount  of  money  to  travel  to  work  as  it  is  unnecessary  for  them  to
fuel  their  vehicles  or  pay  for  public  transportation  regularly.  Moreover,  traffic  jam
can  no  longer  take  away  their  time  and  leftover  energy  after  a  long  working  day,
therefore,  they  might  use  those  more  practically  for  other  activities  or  even  for
relaxation.  Another  benefit  of  online  working  is  that  it  provide  more  people  wide
opportunities  to  dedicate  and  work  for  the  company  that  they  want.  Though
transportation  has  been  much  easier  to  access,  some  people  still  find  it  hard  to
travel  to  work  such  as  women  with  newborn  or  adequate  employees  live  too  far
from their ideal workplace. As a result, online working give them a chance to pursue
their dream job without commuting everyday.
On  the  other  hand,  there  are  few  disadvantages  to  work  from  distance.
The  first drawback is lack of human interaction. As most of work will be done on the
Internet,  unless  the  other  people  are  online,  there  no  possibilities  to  exchange
information  immediately.  Consequently,  productivity  and  swifty  in  work can not be
assured.  The second negative is loss of confidential. It is clear that there no safe zone
for  information  put  on  the  network  so  business  secrets  might  easily  fall  into  the
competitors’ hands or hackers that demand for payoff.
In  conclusion,  distance  working,  on  the  upside,  could  be  a
money/time/energy  saver  or  open  a  path  for  more  people  to  commit  to  work.
However,  their  negatives  are  undeniable  and  they  need  to  be  removed  by
innovating technology in the future.

In recent years, thanks to development in technology, some people prefer working at home,
instead of going to their companies. This brings both advantages and disadvantages for
people.

On the one hand, there are some merits of working from home. Firstly, it can save time and
cost of traveling. People do not have to spend time commuting to get their office, especially
if the company is far from home. Beside, distance working allow people to connect quickly
to their office without face to face meeting, which means that they do not pay for public
transport or private vehicle gas. Another benefit of distance working is that people have
stress less. It can be seen that struggling with traffic jam at rush hour daily may make worker
more stressed than working.

On the other hand, working on the internet can be negative in several ways. The first
drawback is that people often have fewer chances of interacting with others. As a result, they
can feel isolated, even they may not have any a bond of friend. Furthermore, working at
home is not able to provide opportunities to gain experiences from co-workers or bosses.
This means that it is difficult to improve skills and responsibility for work.

In conclusion, although online working has both merits and downsides, it can be an excellent
method if people want to have a flexible part time job.

Homework : 18/02

Nowadays, people are able to work from home because of the development of
technologies instead of going to the work place. Some people believe this trend has many
advantages. However, there are still many problems existed .

To begin with, the economical is what I put my priority in. It save much money from
paying for the travel expenses. For example, in Vietnam almost Vietnamese use bike to go to
work and this vehicle consume approximately 2 litres of petrol to travel 100 kilometers. It
costs 40 thousands Vietnam dong and this can be used for 3 or 4 days. So the traveling
expenses for 1 week is approximately 80 thousands Vietnam dong. So people can save 3
millions and 840 thousands Vietnam dong annually . Morever , if workers could work from
home , they can avoid traffic jam . It wastes a lot of time that you can spend for others things.

Despite the advantages of working from home it also has some drawbacks. One of the
most serious problem is the motivation. Working from home can make workers fell
loneliness and isolation , they have no colleague to promote, support or compete directly.
People can have a tendency to spend assigned tasks to the last day of the deadline. The work
can be delayed because of that. In addition , all the tasks depend on the internet connection
and technology devices . If it has any problem , the work can be interrupted and affect badly
to the company.

In conclusion , as discussed in the essay , there are many advantages of working from
home thanks to the development of technologies but it stll has some problems . teleworking
is a good choice for people who want flexible time of working .

Homework 25/02:

Today, children are care deeply about their study and life, however, this leads them to be
under pressures. This essay will mention about some causes for these pressures and propose
several solutions to overcome them.

It cannot be denied that education, society and commercial are three main reasons which
cause pressure for children. Firstly, children is the over requirements. Children have to spend
much time in schools and doing further study to get the highest result, which means the study
is becoming more competitive. The second reason is parental pressure. Some parents have
unrealistic expectations of their children, so children have to exert themselves to better than
their peers in order to please their parents. The last reason is commercial. There are more
companies target at the young for their marketing campaigns.

Regarding to the matter, some measures could be proposed to tackle this problem. Firstly,
schools transform the testing system, so that children have an open and creative environment
study without worry about score. Secondly, parents should take care about children’s feeling,
thus they have reasonable expectation on their children. Finally, governments must restrict
the advertisements which influence negatively children.

In conclusion, there are many pressures which children are forced. These pressures affect the
mental and physical development of children, so it is important to shield them from
unnecessary burden.

Homework: Children are facing more pressures nowadays from academic, social and
commercial perspectives. What are the causes of these pressures and what measures should
be taken to reduce these pressures.

In this modern day and age, children are facing tremendous stresses from academic,
social and commercial perspectives. There are some significant reasons why this
phenomenon takes place as well as how to solve it. In the following essay, I will discuss
about them.
The causes of this problem are coming from many sides, but some of them are
considerably concerned. Firstly, the pressure comes from education system, teachers set up
their ranking charts, publish children’s score to compare themselves. As the result, students
could be ashamed about their abilities. However, this doesn’t stop at there, even student with
flying colours might feel disappointed because their mark is less higher than the peers.
Secondly, parents form more expectations about the young, it leads to that children have to
make any effort to meet the parent’s demand. Finally, a huge range of uncontrolled
advertisements and programs are published on the multi media, and their target is to the
young to make them get some difficult standards. Therefore, children may attempt to become
who are not their manner.
However, I contend that we should consider carefully these actions. About education,
we should make it more easier for the young. For instance, teachers is not allowed to create
any ranking charts for student as well as make homework for them. Moreover, parents should
not put pressure on the young about the future or band scores. Another measure would be for
the governors to introduce laws about advertising and publishing programs that are aimed to
children.
To summarise, pressures from academic, social, commercial perspectives are caused
by many sides. However, these measures should be taken to face up with them effectively.
