Narrator: 10. Tribal Chief’s Wife

A long time ago, in West Java there was a kingdom named Kutatanggeuhan, led by a wise king
namely King Suwartalaya with his wife Queen Purbamanah. People there lived calmly,
peacefully.

But unfortunately, King Suwartalaya and Queen Purbamanah have not been blessed with a child
as their descent. So, this became the anxiety for King Suwartalaya and Queen Purbamanah.

Scene 1
Queen Purbamanah: (sad and cry)

King Suwartalaya: “Never mind dinda. Don't cry. If you continue to grieve like this, you will
be sad. And I don’t want you to be sad.”

Queen Purbamanah: “How can’t you be sad, we have been married for years but we have not
been blessed with a child.”

Advisor: “Your Majesty, I think you should find a foster child. So that Queen will not continues
to be sad. Perhaps it can reduce the sadness of the Queen.”

Queen Purbamanah: “Noway! I don't want to have a foster child!”

King Suwartalaya: “Thanks for your advice, advisor. I also disagree if I raise an adopt child.
For us, biological children are better than the adopted one.”

Queen Purbamanah still continued to cry as they didn’t have a child, even if they attempted.
They tried everything for having child, even asked a shaman, but it didn’t works.

Queen Purbamanah: “Alright then. Dinda also prayed that we will be given the best by God.”
King Suwartalaya: “Don’t be sad for me okay?”

Queen Purbamanah: (Nod)

Narrator:
The sad news of King Suwartalaya and his wife has got abroad all over the other kingdom and
it’s people.

Until one day...

Soldier 1: “Your highness, there is an old lady out of the castle who wants to meet you and the
Queen.“

King Suwartalaya: “Who’s her name? Why she wants to meet us?”

Soldier 1: “She is Nyai Kembang, your highness. She told that she can make the Queen have a
child.“

King Suwartalaya & Queen: (look at each other)

King Suwartalaya: “Invite her now!”

Scene 4
Narrator:
So his the soldier asked Nyai Kembang to go in and meet the King and Queen.

Nyai Kembang: "Excuse me, King. I come here to bring a necklace that is said to be able to
make the Queen can immediately have a baby."

King Suwartalaya: "How can I trust you, old lady?"

Nyai Kembang: "Sorry my King. I got news from another kingdom a little later. That the wife of
the King who ruled in the kingdom soon got a baby after wearing this necklace, your highness."

Narrator:
After several weeks of wearing the necklace, there are no signs that indicate that the queen will
get a baby. The queen was sad again. But suddenly the Tribal Chief and his wife came to meet
King and Queen, carrying a potion that was believed to help the queen get a baby.

Servant 2: "Excuse me King, there is a Tribal Chief who wants to meet you."

King: "Is there a need for them to come here?"

Servant 2: "He said that he brought a magic potion for the queen."

King: "Send them in."

Servant 2: "Yes, my King." (immediately summon the Tribal Chief)

Tribal Chief: "Excuse me, I would like to give a magic potion to you. It is believed to be able to
help the queen to get a baby."

Raja: "Is that right? Do you know where the benefits of this potion really is? "
Tribal Chief’s Wife: "Sorry my King, I got it from a powerful old man who lives downstream.

Unfortunately, the magic potion didn't work. The Queen was sad again. The King could not bear
to see his Queen cried every single night. He was confused about it. Until he decided to return to
ask Mbah Priyetno, the Royal Tradisional Healer, is there still another way that can make them
get a baby.

King: "Mbah, my wife has been sad for years. She is very eager to get a baby who can continue
this kingdom. I can't bear to see it. Have you got another way to deal with this problem? "

Mbah: "Sorry, my King, until now I continue to look for various ways that can overcome the
your problems. But as you know, all of these methods always fail. "

that, they brought many gifts for the baby.

Ratu Purbamanah: (carrying the baby)

Prabu Suwartalaya: “Our daughter is beautiful, Dinda. And she looks really cute.”

Ratu Purbamanah: “Yes, Kanda. We must be grateful that we are finally blessed with a child.”

Prabu Suwartalaya: “Yes, dinda. Our daughter is also sweet, and very adorable!”
“Therefore, what if we give the name Gilang Rukmini? Do you agree with
me hm?”

Ratu Purbamanah: “I agree, my King.”

Scene 6
Narrator:
Time went by. Princess Gilang Rukmini grew and turned into a pretty princess.
For a moment the king and queen were happy. Until one day...

Purbamanah. The princess grew into a spoiled girl with bad character. She did not hesitate to say
rudely to get what he wanted. Even so, both Prabu Suwartalaya, Ratu Purbamanah, and the
people loved him very much.
The Queen planned to give the hereditary dress from the ancestors as her birthday gift to wear on
Ruminid birthday party, but...

Gilang Rukmini: “Mommy!!! I doesn't like this dress!” (throwing dress on servant 1)

Queen: “But this is from the ancestors, honey. Mommy used it when I was your age. Because it
shows that we are growing up.”

Rukmini: (sitting in a chair) “It’s just a dress! An ugly dress! Since it was centuries old, I
wouldn’t be suitable to wear it. I am still young!”

Servant 1: (combing princess hair)

lurik they illustrate- (explaining patiently but Rukmini cuts the conversation).

Rukmini: (interrupts the conversation), Excuse me BOSS! If you still force me to wear it, I
won't attend my birthday party! (threatening sharply)

Queen: (sighs and leaves with a sad face)

Rukmini: “Finally my mother left too. I'm tired of hearing all the orders.”
“If the Queen comes, don't you dare open the door for her. Because all day long I don't
ever want to see her, I want to keep quiet in the room so she doesn't keep forcing me.

Servant 2: “Geez princess, but what if the Queen angry? (scared tone)

Rukmini: “Just obey my words!”

Servant 1: “B-but princess, we afraid if ...”

Rukmini: (cutting the conversation) Shut up! If you don’t obey my orders, you are not afraid of

Narrator:
The days changed very fast. Tomorrow is the Rukmini’s birthday. The king has prepared it so
magnificently. He invited all his people. Because of their sense of love for the kingdom and
daughter, the people gave various kinds of gifts to the castle. Because of the many gifts people
gave, the king finally gave a necklace as a symbol of gifts from the people.

Advisor: "Excuse me King, I came here to deliver gifts given by the people to the princess.”
(Giving a gift to servant 1)

Servant 1: (taking a prize)

King: "Thank you. Convey my gratitude also to my people for their love to my daughter. "

Advisor: "Of course, your majesty. "

Jeweller to make a beautiful necklace for my daughter. "

Narrator:
Today is the princess’s birthday party. Domestic residents gather in the palace square. When
Prabu and Queen Purbamanah arrived, people welcomed them happily. A warm welcome was
heard, when the beautiful princess appeared in front of everyone. Everyone admires her beauty.

People: (screaming and clapping) “Hooray !! hooray !! Hooray !!! The King and Queen have
come!”

People: “Wuaaah the princess is so beautiful.”

People: “I became jealous of her.”

Scene 11
Narrator:
Prabu Suwartalaya took the special gift and...
Prabu Suwartalaya: “My beloved daughter Gilang Rukmini, today is your birthday. I give this
necklace to you. This necklace is given by people from all over the country. They love you so
much. They offer this gift, because they are happy to see you grow up to be an adult. Wear this
necklace, my daughter.”

Narrator:
Princess receives the necklace. She saw the necklace at a glance. Then...

Gilang Rukmini: “Huhh?! What is this?! It is too ugly! And ughh... I’ll never wear it! (broke the
nacklace)

People: “Haaahhhh ??? The beautiful necklace made of gold gems was just thrown by the
princess. I really didn't expect the princess to do that.”

Narrator:
Beautiful necklace was broken. Gold and the cloth were scattered on the floor. All the people
that attend were surprised. Nobody speaks. Silence. Suddenly the Queen of Purbamanah cried
seeing her daughter's behavior. The people followed in tears to see the Queen Purbamanah
crying. Finally, all of them shed tears, until the palace was wet with their tears.

Ratu Purbamanah: (cries)

Narrator:
Suddenly a spring appeared from the castle’s courtyard. The water came out unstopably which is
getting more and more.

People: “Hahahh ?? Flood! Hey safe yourself! Flood! Safe yourself!”

Others: (running, tried to find safe zone)

Narrator:
After the incident, the people shouted in confusion, panic, fear and suddenly the castle was filled
with water like a lake. Then the lake grew bigger and sank the castle. Then a beautiful lake was
created.

The name of the lake is known by peoples as Telaga Warna. The color comes from the shadow
of the forest, plants, flowers, and the sky around the lake. However, people said, the colors came
from the Princess Gilang Rukmini's necklace which was spread on the bottom of the lake
