History

o Dimensions concept since 1800s.

o Some people assumed that 4D is the time .
o Scientists, Psychologists, Philosophers as
well as Spiritualists also take interest in
the fourth Dimension.
o Mathematicians and Physicists use the 4th
dimension in daily calculations to illsuratw
some of the universe.

1
INTRODUCTION

o 4D opened one new door for imagination

and challenge, creating new types of
technology and design.
o 4D - “the dynamic form resulting from the
design of the behavior of artifacts and
people in relation to each other and their
environment”.

2
4D SPACE
o Mathematically, four-dimensional space
("4D") is an abstract concept derived by
generalizing the rules of three-dimensional
space.
o Algebraically it is generated by applying the
rules of vectors and coordinate geometry to
a space with four dimensions.
o A vector with four elements (a 4-tuple) can
be used to represent a position in four-
dimensional space.
o A four-dimensional space is simply a space
with four spatial dimensions, which is a
space that needs four parameters to specify
a point in it- Euclidian space.

3
What is 4D ?
o Scientifically speaking, the 4th dimension
is said to be time. There are 3 spatial
dimensions (x,y,z) and one temporal
dimension-time. In common use 4D
generally refers to coordinates in 3D
space/time.
o This dimension is being implemented in
various fields of film making, aerospace,
medical, computing etc.

4
VIEWING IN 4D
o Four-dimensional viewing is the process of
projecting a 4D scene onto a 3D region,
which can then be viewed with regular 3D
rendering methods.
o Viewing parameters for the 4D to 3D
projection are similar to those for 3D to 2D
viewing.
o In the 4D viewing model, we need to define
the frompoint. This is conceptually the
same as the 3D frompoint, except that the
4D from-point resides in fourspace.

5
6
What is the 4th Dimension?
o Some believe it is time.
o Scientists “ Mathematicians “ believe it is a
direction different from all direction in the
real life.

7
First Dimension
o object = only one of the fundamental units.
o i.e. a line only has length.

8
Second Dimension
Object = two of the fundamental units.

i.e. a square has a length and a width.

9
Third Dimension
3D object = three fundamental units.

i.e. a cube has a length, width and height.

10
The fourth Dimension

4D object = four fundamental units.

i.e. a hypercube has a length, width, height

and a fourth dimension that is perpendicular
to all three of the other units.

11
4D Ultrasound
o 4D ultrasound is a medical ultrasound
technique, used in medical filed ,
providing 3D images of the fetus .
o Send waves
o Receive returned echoes
o Program recognize the frequencies echoes
by use the mathematic theory of 4D to
create the 3D image , it can be live by
keep sending courteously.

12
4D Film Making
o Combining a 3-D film with physical effects
in the theatre, which occur in
synchronization with the film.
o Films include rain, wind, strobe lights, and
vibration. Water sprays and air jets are also
common.

o Wind blowing, water spraying, leg and back

ticklers, is usually considered as a 4-D
experience.
13
Cinema 4D- A TOOL
o When a scene is finished it is normally
rendered. Rendering refers to the act of
calculating the scene, the shading, the
colors and the textures.
o It then saves the project in many different
file formats including high resolution image
and video files (such as AVI or QuickTime).

14
o CINEMA 4D has its own programming
language, C.O.F.F.E.E., to develop platform
independent plugins.
