III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity

A. Preparatory Activities
(Opening Prayer)
(Greetings)
(Checking of attendance)

1. Motivation
Group Activity:
The class will be divided into four; each group will be
given pieces of paper with words written on them.
They will be asked to arrange the words in order to
make a sentence.

They will come up with the following sentences:

1. Philippines is rich in natural resources.
2. Did you promise to attend the meeting?
3. Please turn on the lights.
4. Something is wrong with the dog!

Anybody who can tell me what he / she notices with

the following sentences? (Pupils answer)
Very good observation!

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
(Show a video of a peacock)

Read the passage. (Pupils read the passage)

The peacock is one of the most beautiful birds in the
world. The peacock’s tail has wonderful colors, too.
Did you know the tail is almost five feet long? The
peacock’s tail slows him down when he has to run
from the predators like the tiger. So, why does the
peacock have such a long tail if he might get caught?
Think about it. If the male peacock is strong enough
to survive even with his long tail the female peacock
figures he will make a good partner. So, in the
peacock world, the most gorgeous guy always gets
the girl!

The above passage is made up of different kinds of

sentences.
Study this examples:
1. The peacock is one of the most beautiful birds in
the world.
2. Did you know the tail is almost five feet long?
3. Think about it.
4. So, in the peacock world the most gorgeous guy
always gets the girl!

2. Discussion
Now, let’s discuss each kind of sentence.

Would someone read this sentence for me? (A declarative sentence states a fact or opinions
and ends with a period (.))

Thank you. Now, let’s take a look at this sentence

from the passage. (The peacock is one of the most
beautiful birds in the world.) This one is declarative
sentence. Could you tell me the reason why it is
classified as declarative? (Pupils answer)

Very Good. Let’s proceed to the second kind of

sentence. Would someone read the definition of an
interrogative sentence? (An interrogative sentence asks a question and
ends with a question mark(?))

Thanks. It’s easy to understand, right? Remember

that an interrogative sentence ends with a question
mark. The second sentence in the given examples is
an example of it! Did you get it? (Pupils reply)

That’s good. So let’s proceed to the next kind of

sentence which is the imperative sentence. Read the
definition. “An imperative sentence expresses a request or
gives a command or direction. It also ends with a
period (.) or exclamation mark (!)”
Thank you. Now, let see the third sentence in the
given example. It ends with a period but that does
not mean it is a declarative sentence. Can somebody
explain why? (Pupil volunteers and answer)

Perfect! Now, I want you class to give me an example

of an imperative that expresses a request. (Pupils volunteer to give their answers)

Very good! Now, let’s discuss the last kind of

sentence which is the exclamatory sentence.
Everybody read the definition.
(An exclamatory sentence expresses a strong
feeling or emotion and ends with an exclamation
mark(!))

Can somebody give me an example? (Pupil volunteers to give his/her answer)

Well done, class! Do you have any questions? (Pupil says no) / (Pupil asks questions)

Now let’s have a short activity.

Activity 1
Read the sample paragraph below. As I highlight the
sentence, tell me if it is declarative, interrogative,
imperative or exclamatory sentence.

What is your favorite type of fast food? My favorite

is pizza. I just love pepperoni and double cheese. (Answers: interrogative, declarative, declarative,
Sometimes I think I could eat pizza morning, noon exclamatory, declarative, imperative)
and night! All of this talk about pizza is making me
hungry. Let’s order a pizza now.

Activity 2

will paste it on the board that is labeled with the
