Classification of gunshot wound

Gunshot wounds consist of entry wound and exit wound. Based on the distance of the
shot, incoming gunshot wounds are classified into 3, namely:

 Contact wound
 Intermediate range
 Distant range
The differences in wound characteristics between each of the entry gunshot
wounds can be seen based on the following table:

A high velocity bullet will cause a relatively smaller wound compared to a lower
velocity bullet.

High-speed bullets are long-barreled weapons such as submachine guns and


rifles to attack, usually causing an entry wound (small). While low velocity weapon is
a weapon with a short barrel, such as revolvers and pistols that cause exit gunshot
wounds.
