Starbucks Coffee Company

Bloomington/Normal, IL

To Whom it May Concern,

I’m writing because I am interested in interviewing for the position of Assistant Store Manager
for the Starbucks store in Bloomington/Normal. I found this job listing through your
Indeed.com post. I feel that I would be an asset to your store, as I am already a partner of two
and a half years, and I am very investing in moving up and creating a future with Starbucks
Coffee Company. I have been a shift supervisor for the past year, and I have found the
experience extremely rewarding, but now I am hoping to take the next step forward.
My interpersonal skills and passion for coffee culture make me exceptionally qualified. I excel at
customer connection in my current store, which has held the highest score in the two separate
districts to which we have belonged during the past year. I ensure that I create the third place
for every customer in each shift that I lead by remembering names and orders and ensuring that
everyone receives a warm greeting as they walk into the door. Getting to know my regulars has
been one of my favorite parts of this job. These standards are important to me because they
create the unique Starbucks experience that I fell in love with during my training.
I mentioned that coffee culture was extremely important to me as well, and though I was
unfortunately never able to become a Coffee Master, I have enjoyed our new Coffee Leader
Journey and would hope to continue to be a part of that initiative in this new leadership role. I
have been my store’s Barista Champion for the last two years, and it has been an extremely
rewarding experience, both personally and professionally, to compete at the district level against
others who have the same passion that I do. It shows me that the coffee shop culture is thriving
among Starbucks partners, and I would strive to nurture that in our store, by among other
things, doing coffee tastings as frequently as possible with partners and customers. This serves
a dual purpose, as it also helps drive the sale of at home coffee, which is something that I believe
many of our day to day customers overlook. I look forward to bringing those strengths to this
location in a new leadership role if hired for this position. I hope that by moving into an ASM
position, I will be able to grow as a leader myself and also to nurture these passions in new
baristas – “green beans” as my trainer called me, after coffee that hadn’t been roasted yet – and
also in some partners that might not be as new to the company, but just need to rediscover their
love for it.
I was originally drawn to Starbucks because of its mission statement: “to nurture and inspire the
human spirit, one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time,” and I hope that if I were to
be given this position, I would be able to fulfill that aspiration more completely, in that it would
further my goal of one day being able to manage my own Starbucks store, to be able to nurture
my own neighborhood, so to speak. I sincerely look forward to the opportunity to interview for
this position.
Thank you for your consideration and Best Wishes,
