BACKGROUND OF BTTE
BTTE program is designated to produce graduates equipped with
technical teaching, competences for positions in secondary and post-secondary
schools and training centers and the component of the new Basic Education
Curriculum (BEC).
It primarily sets its goals to be accomplished every year to produce
competitive graduates equipped with both technical and teaching competences, to
provide learning facilities and tools to meet current and emerging needs, to
conduct action research geared to improving instruction, and provide upgraded
learning resources to meet the students emerging needs in a rapidly changing
educational environment. In addition, it introduces community development
programs, provides students appropriate student services that will help develop
their potentials of studentry, provides for students with special needs to meet
their aspirations, and promotes linkages with identified institutions and agencies.
The BTTE program has made development plans. The expected outputs are to
produce graduates of the technology programs and revise the BTTE curriculum
focusing on the content delivery system and instructional modes. There will be
competency learning guides and activity packages which includes student
competency profile, training standard, ladderized program, and ETEEAP
Furthermore, BTTE is divided into two categories: general stream
(BTTE-GS) and specialized stream (BTTE-SS). The BTTE-GS students have
different major areas like electronics, electrical, mechanical, automotive,
refrigeration and air-conditioning, while the BTTE-SS students have to learn on
area of specialization as their major subject. The BTTE’s are not behind in terms
of accomplishments in the College of Technology. Both the BTTE-GS and
BTTE-SS really excelled not just academically but also in socio-civic activities.
They had donated books at the College of Technology- Learning Resources
Center (CT-LRC) conducted organizational clean-up and outreach programs in
some barangays in the city.

HISTORY OF TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF THE

PHILIPPINES-TAGUIG
FORMERLY MANILA TECHNICIAN INSTITUTE

Technician education came into existence in the Philippines in the late sixties.
In 1969, the Presidential Commission to Survey Philippine Education (Executive
Order 202 s. 1969) recommended the development of the middle-level manpower
through the establishment of special post-secondary technician institutes for the
training or retraining of skilled technicians. This recommendation led to the
creation of the Education Task Force (ETF) and the issuance of the Presidential
Decree No. 6-A, otherwise known as the Educational Development Decree of 1972.
Section 6 of said decree created the Educational Development Projects
Implementing Task Force (EDPITAF) to supervise and implement foreign-assisted
projects in education. EDPITAF, through the financial support of the World Bank,
established two (2) technician institutes: one in Taguig, Metro Manila (the Manila
Technician Institute) to service Luzon and another in Talisay, Negros Occidental
(the Visayas Technician Institute) to service the Visayas area. A third one, existing
under the Mindanao State University (the Iligan Institute of Technology), was
strengthened and expanded to service the Mindanao area.

In June 1977, the Manila Technician Institute (MTI) and the Visayas
Technician Institute (VTI) accepted their first batch of students. At MTI, the
programs offered were Automotive, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics,
Mechanical and Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Technology. These two
institutes were formally confirmed as prototype state schools to train and develop
middle-level manpower through Presidential Letter of Implementation No. 654
issued on January 1, 1978. However, on December 28, 1978, Presidential Letter of
Implementation No. 79 established the National Polytechnic System on
technical/technician education, which integrated all state-supported institutions in
the country. The system placed the MTI and VTI under the administration of the
Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) as the apex system.
Technological University of the Philippines
Taguig Campus

The Board of Regents through Resolution No. 100 s. 1985 changed the name
of Manila Technician Institute to Technological University of the Philippines-
Taguig (TUP-T). The new name TUPT was adopted on January 3, 1985.

In 1985, a survey conducted by TUP-Taguig among its graduates revealed

the need for a continuing education program as a tool for professional advancement
and upper level management positions. Thus, on June 1986, the Bachelor of
Technology and Bachelor of Engineering programs were offered for graduates of the
three-year technician programs who had been employed in the industry. On June
1988, degree programs such as Bachelor of Science in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical
and Electronics and Communication Engineering and Bachelor of Technician
Teacher Education were added to the TUP-Taguig Campus course offering adopting
the ladderized approach from the three-year Diploma of Technology courses.

To provide for the manpower needs of the industry, additional technology

programs were also offered: Computer Technology (SY 1983-1984), Architectural
Technology and Instrumentation and Control Technology (1988-1989), and for SY
1989-1990, Biochemical Technology, Foundry Engineering Technology,
Electromechanical Technology, Non-Destructive Testing Technology and Tool
Engineering Technology. The Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology
(BTIT) commenced classes on January 2003.

The TUP system standardized on June of 1988 the curriculum of all its
offerings. This standardization also paved, in TUP-Taguig and TUP-Visayas, the
start of the assignment of credit units for every curricular subject. However, despite
this standardization, both TUP-Taguig and TUP-Visayas were allowed to maintain
its trimestral calendar. School Year 1991-1992 was another milestone for TUP-
Taguig history when it implemented the offering of the graduate program in Master
of Technology and Master in Management, as authorized by TUP Order No. 91-04
dated January 17, 1991.
Technological University of the Philippines

On June 2004, the curricula of the engineering courses were restructured to

conform to CHED academic requirements. Implementation of the restructured
curricula started in SY 2004-2005. In order to increase the number of courses in the
day program and to meet the needs of some students, the BSEE and BSECE courses
were offered on June 2005 adopting the traditional direct or regular straight course
approach and not the ladderized approach. Students entering these degree courses in
the day program are expected to graduate after four years of the trimestral school
calendar.

Last June 2014, the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science was

offered as a straight course approach and a ladderized approach for the Chemical
Engineering Technology graduates. The Bachelor of Technician Teacher Education
was also re-offered as an evening program.

ORIENTATION

Before we were released to the battle field of teaching, we were oriented

with the do’s and don’t that we should be observing and maintaining while we are
in the training. Prof. Lizette Terania and Prof. Mitchie Caurel gave the conditions
and reminded us the rules, the code of ethics, the magna carta and our obligations
that we must do. The Student teacher should have the following responsibilities:

 Observe the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers.

 Come to school well groomed and properly dressed, image of the modest
teacher.
 Observe punctuality throughout the duration of the school practicum.
 Participate actively on all the school related activities.
 Notify the Cooperating Teacher of his/her absences in case of emergencies
accordingly.
 Suggest for the improvement routine practices that may be overlooked by the
Cooperating Teacher.
 Be responsible, objective and open to constructive criticisms.
 Be a good role model to students.
 Respect the dignity of children and their rights
 Make teaching more meaningful by using appropriate teaching methods and
creativity.
 Be prepared before teaching at all times.
 Settle all financial obligations to the cooperating school.
 Return all the borrowed materials to the cooperating teacher before the term
ends.

MEETING THE BTTE COORDINATOR

Mr. Heherson P. Ramos is our new BTTE coordinator. He was also one of
my cooperating teacher in 1st term. When I first met Sir Ramos, he was our
professor in Research Study. I thought he was strict because he looks so serious but
then as the time went by I realized that he was kind and considerate. When we have
questions about our research, he was always there ready to help and did every thing
to support and guide us. When I committed an offence in Bagumbayan National
High School he got my reason first before he reacted. I admitted that it was my fault
but then he still encouraged me to keep going and do what it takes to be able learn
from my training. He advised me to keep moving forward and do the best I can to
prove to my cooperating school that I can still redeem myself and do my very best in
the period of my practice teaching.

MEETING WITH BASIC ARTS AND SCIENCES DEPARTMENT

BASD teachers are so friendly and open arms to help us every time we need
some assistance or support. Whenever I have questions they were always there to
answer and ready to help. Even though we are still practice teachers, they treated us
like professionals already. They were so nice and the best part was that we were
included in the gatherings whenever there were professor who celebrate their
birthdays. I feel like I was really part of the team.

MEETING WITH THE COOPERATING TEACHER

In my in campus training, I had three cooperating teachers. Prof. Jose C.

Florendo, Prof. Albert B. Dasal and Prof. Heherson P. Ramos. Each one of them was
given me an opportunity to experience the duty of a real teacher.
My subject for Mr. Florendo was Math in the Modern World. I introduced
myself to the learners and delivered a short speech to them for each of his class. To
be honest, the concepts and ideas about the content of this subject was not quite
familiar to me. It was more on application of math in economics, loans, compound
interest, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, linear programming and more. Though this
subject was interesting I need to study and research more about it to be able to
present in the class. Unfortunately, it was all reporting and most of the task was
almost done by the student reporters.
My subject for Mr. Dasal was Math in the Modern World as well. We made
used of the same references and teaching strategies so with Mr. Florendo. It was
also reporting and topics was already distributed to reporters. He just gave me a
topic to discussed to enhance my skills and experience how to teach and handle
students inside the classroom.
My subject for Mr. Ramos was Rizal. Same thing with my other critique
teachers, It was also a reporting task. He just given me a soft copy on Rizal’s life
and instructed me to study more about Rizal so that after each reporter, I may give
some additional insights about a specific topic or events in the life of Rizal.

MEETING WITH THE STUDENTS

At my first day of practice teaching, I was introduced by my cooperating

teachers for every class that we handled. I personally introduced myself to everyone
though I admit that I was really nervous and uncomfortable to speak. We
were instructed to spend our first twenty five hours for class observation.

OBSERVATION PERIOD

To be honest in my first week observation, In not yet fully prepared in

managing the students. They were very noisy in doing their activity. I restrained
them for being noisy and instructed them to be quiet.
I was tasked by my critique, Mr. Ramos to check a bunch of test papers and
record it. It was over whelming to scan, correct and tabulate those documents. I
realized that paper works is one of the most challenging job for a teacher
unfortunately, I have to embrace that if I really want to pursue this career.

As a student teacher I got the feeling of the atmosphere of the classroom and
I should secure specific information regarding classroom procedure. I discovered
certain tasks to be undertaken including assisting the supervising teacher in:
 Knowing and memorizing the names of the children.
 Having a daily program.
 Knowing the standards of behavior being utilized by the teacher and students
in such situations as group discussions, making reports and used of free time.
 Knowing the classroom facilities.
 Knowing classroom routines

EXPERIENCES WITH SCHOOL PERSONNEL

I was assigned a topic to discussed and I was given a subject that I’m not
quite familiar with. It was given to me one week ahead but I didn’t got it right away.
I was confused with my topic even though I made a lot of research about it. I just
totally figured it out when I asked assistance to Ms. Ochoa, one of the BASD faculty
teachers major in Math. Luckily she managed to explain to me well and thank God I
delivered my presentation perfectly. I felt great after I delivered my presentation. At
first, I thought I can not do the job but with preparation, willingness to learn and
with the help of other people specially the expertise of BASD professors I managed
to do it right

EXPERIENCES WITH COOPERATING TEACHER

Experiences with Prof. Heherson Ramos

There were assigned reporters, Mr. Ramos tasked me to give supplemental
information for every topic that the reporter discussed. If some events, topics or
concepts that was missed to discussed, I have to temporarily stop the reporter and
add some insights to make the discussion fully understood by the listeners. I need to
study, read more references and learn as much as I can so that I can share more with
the class.
Mr. Ramos gave me the whole authority to handle the class for the whole
period to discuss the four chapters in the life of Rizal. I felt great and gained a lot of
confidence when speaking in front of the class. I realized that as long as I know
what I am saying because I study and prepared about my lesson, there’s nothing to
be afraid or worry about.

Experiences with Prof. Albert Dasal

Prof. Dasal was strict in giving exams. He used to provide test questions and
answer sheets, instruct the students to put their bags in front of the class and one seat
apart. I realized this method is effective in giving assessment to avoid cheating.

Experiences with Prof. Jose Florendo

I considered him as my best friend professor. I learned a lot from him not
only in the four corners of the classroom but also he shared his experiences with me
about his life and help me how to deal with my personal relationship.
Technological University of the Philippines
Taguig Campus

EXPERIENCES WITH THE STUDENTS

.
Being strict in giving exams to students must be implement accordingly to
determine if the student really learned the subject. Making games related to the topic
is an exciting way to get the interest of the students that will drive them to study and
participate in the class.
Film viewing related to the topic or subject is very effective method to make
the learning fun and interesting.
The duty of a teacher is not just to teach and impart knowledge to students
but to mold their minds of every learners to become a responsible and productive
citizen of the society. We teachers weather we like it or not are the second parent
whenever we are inside the classroom. Everything we say or do will always be
correct in the eyes of every student.
Technological University of the Philippines

DAILY TEACHING EXPERIENCES

Giving examples related students daily activities to elaborate a certain topic

is one way to engaged them in the classroom. As my training went on, I encounter
some lessons that difficult for the students to explain specially new concepts so Mr.
Florendo told me to research and give lots of examples so that I can relate to
students for them to grasp the discussion easily.
Making lesson plans is one of the biggest challenges of becoming a teacher.
Preparing for daily lesson is very crucial specially for us. Mr. Ramos said that we
should always be ready and plan ahead of time before we enter to our classroom. I
remember one time, I didn’t prepare a lesson for the day and it was really
frustrating. I must show them that I know what I am doing so what I did was I just
review them with our previous lesson. I was very disappointed with myself that I
didn’t done my part. The scenario had taught me a lesson that I should always be
ready and plan a head of time.

FINAL TEACHING DEMONSTRATION EXPERIENCES

(IN CAMPUS)
My topic was about Displacement and Speed under Mr. Florendo on Physics.
Before my final demonstration I prepared everything that I need to execute my
teaching demonstration including the snacks of the panelist. I provide nametags for
the students since I don’t fully memorize their names so that I can address them for
recitation. As usual, I started with classroom management and present a video
related to my topic to motivate the students.
Technological University of the Philippines
Taguig Campus

According to Mr. Ramos, my presentation was delivered well except that my

voice was too weak that they can’t hear it at the back of the classroom. He advised
me to practice speaking louder so that I can deliver my idea to the learners. There
were also corrections in my lesson plan particularly in my objectives. The three
objective domain must be present in preparing an effective objectives, these are
cognitive, affective and psychomotor.

BRIEF HISTORY OF BAGUMBAYAN

NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Location: M.L. Quezon St. Bagumbayan, Taguig City,

at the back of C.P. Sta. Teresa Elementary School.
Tel. No: 839-2059.

On July 26, 1999 the then newly elected Congressman Alan Peter Cayetano
endorsed a bill in the House of Representatives known as the ” Act Establishing a
National High School in Brgy. Bagumbayan Taguig to be known as Bagumbayan
National High School.” Finally, Republic Act no. 3845 was passed by House of
Representatives and Senate on October 9,1999 and June 8, 2000 respectively.
Two years after the approval of said act, Bagumbayan National High School opened
its door to the students in June 2002 with 485 freshmen, 6 teachers and 5 makeshift
classrooms located in C.P. Sta. Teresa Elementary School.
At present, Bagumbayan National High School has 25 classrooms with a 3-storey 9
classroom building under construction. There are almost 4,000 students enrolled this
SY 2011-2012 being handled by strong teaching force of 98 faculty members. The
school is under the leadership of Dr. Noemi O. Bayle (principal).

ORIENTATION

We were oriented by our dear professor and BTTE coordinator,

Mr. Heherson Ramos about our behavior and practices that we must observe outside
the campus. He emphasized that we should be cooperative, supportive and do the
best we can to help the cooperating school and we should not do any thing that can
place the name of our school in shame. He site some rules and regulations as
follows:
 We should always consider the welfare of the students and the
cooperating school before we do any decisions or actions.
 Wearing Id’s, nametags and proper uniform must be practice all the
time.
 Greeting the cooperating teacher or any school personnel whenever
we encounter them to show respect.
 Having an affair to students is strictly prohibited
 Punctuality is a must.
 Updating the journal daily to record the experiences gained in the
field.

MEETING THE PRINCIPAL

When we first met the principal, Mr. Gil M. Teodoro on our ocular visit in
Bagumbayan National High School. He was so kind and hospitable to us. He asked
each one of us to what subject that are comfortable and wanted to teach, I said “Sir,
I want to teach Senior High preferably Electrical”.I chose Senior High because in
my opinion, they were grown ups already and matured enough. I taught they were
the most easy to deal with but unfortunately it was not. All Senior High faculty staff
consider them as the most stubborn and hardheaded students. I was the only one
assigned in Senior High while the rest of my fellow practice teachers was in Junior
High Department.

MEETING WITH SENIOR HIGH DEPARTMENT

In my first day in Bagumbayan National High School, I was introduced by

cooperating teacher to the faculty members of senior high department. I was glad
that they warmly accepted me as part of their team. At first, it seems that they were
strict but then I learned to socialized with them and I realized that they were funny
and used to tell jokes. Sometimes, they teased me to a school personnel who was
working as encoder. They used to call her “Ate girl”. I don’t took it seriously for I
know it was only a joke.

MEETING WITH THE COOPERATING TEACHER

When I first met my cooperating teacher, Engr. Rowelle Dasig, a fresh

graduate from my alma matter- TUP TAguig. To be honest, I was a little bit
disappointed. The subject was Electrical Installation and Maintenance . I was really
not quite familiar with the subject for Electronics is my forte. I was expecting that
my cooperating teacher would be a skilled and expert that I may learned a lot. “Ang
bata naman ng cooperating teacher ko, ano naman kaya ang pwede kong matutunan
sa kanya?” I said to my self. Yes, I doubt him at first but as I observed the way he
handled the students and teach them, “ A OK naman pala, kaya nyang pangatwanan
ang trabaho niya”, I said to my self. He can tame and manage the students well.
He oriented me about the behavior of the students and how to deal with them.
At first I was intimidated with the way he described the students were exaggerated.
He emphasized the EIM grade 12 as the worst section.
The only challenge for us was that we don’t have a concrete curriculum
guide for our lesson so we struggle to create our own lesson for every meeting. We
tried to search on the DEPED websites about the curriculum guide for senior high
major in electrical but unfortunately, there was none.
Technological University of the Philippines
Taguig Campus

MEETING WITH THE STUDENTS

I had three classes in Electrical Installation and Maintenance. Two of them

were grade eleven and I had one section of grade twelve. All of them were male and
I have only one girl student in grade twelve. In my first day in off campus training, I
was really shocked for Mr. Dasig was scolding his advisory class about their
misbehavior. He talked to his class about some issues like bullying, late, absentees,
throwing garbage anywhere and stealing. I was intimidated and didn’t expect that
these was the kind of student I will going to manage and teach. Since all of them
were boys they were uncontrolled and stubborn.

OBSERVATION PERIOD

We were given one week to observe the atmosphere on the real battle field of
teaching in public school. I was assigned in Senior high department and I was given
the chance to handle the most stubborn students- the TVL Electrical. I was culture
shock and surprised about the behavior of these students. I have to admit that I was

really intimidated in my first day when Ms. Jeniffer Versoza endorsed me to my

cooperating teacher- Engr. Rowelle Dasig. As I observed my cooperating teacher
delivering his lesson, its like he was teaching grade one students with these kind of
student’s misbehavior.

EXPERIENCES WITH SCHOOL PERSONNEL

The school personnel of Bagumbayan National High School were kind and
friendly. There is this kind of school personnel that maintain security and safety
inside the campus. They call themselves as POZO. To be honest I did’nt knew its
meaning. They used to greet me every morning whenever I passed at their office
Technological University of the Philippines

and treated me as a regular teacher. There was one time when I forgot my
motorcycle key in my motorcycle and luckily they managed to keep it and
concerned to returned it back to me. I was really thankful that they are honest and
doing their responsibilities with honor.
Another thing that I liked was being served and prioritized by the canteen
personel specially on recess. They took my orders first before the students. I feel
great that even though we were just practice teachers, they offered us treatment like
real teachers.

EXPERIENCES WITH COOPERATING TEACHER

Since our subject was Electrical Installation and Maintenance, all of

the learners were male. I admit that it was a challenge for us to tame them for
males are so unruly. Mr. Dasig told me that in order to rule and manage
those kind of students, I should become a father figure to them that carries
conviction and authority to make them domesticate.
Technological University of the Philippines
Taguig Campus

EXPERIENCES WITH THE STUDENTS

.
I observed that every students have different learning ability that some can
grasp the topic easily but some were slow learners as well. Since this subject was
more on practical application, we decided to merge a fast learner to a slower ones.
Technological University of the Philippines
Taguig Campus

It was an effective strategy that they learn from each other. This strategy will also
made easy for us to facilitate them for we just let give a problem or situation and its
up to them how they explore and solve on their own.
I used to have fun with my students. We played guitars and asked their
personal relationships or any family related issues and I tried to connect with them
specially heart talks for I experience a love problems as well. I also asked their
opinions about my personal relationship and it was amazing that they gave me
advises.
Though I have some students that were very closed to me, there were also
some who didn’t care at all. Sometimes they just ignored my instructions and
sometimes I feel that they don’t respect me. The problem was I can not speak louder
and sometimes my voice was overpowered by their noise that is why I always carry
lapel with me.

DAILY TEACHING EXPERIENCES

Technological University of the Philippines
Taguig Campus

Every time I enter the room in all my classes, most of the students were
noisy and busy chatting with each other. Some of them were going outside, some
were playing mobile games and some were doing activity in other subjects. In my
daily teaching experiences, I have to make sure that I implement the classroom
management first before I proceed to discussed a lesson to administer and prepare
them to listen. I started every session with opening prayer, arranging chairs and
wearing their ID’s. In this manner, I forced them to pay attention to what I’m saying
and I also warned them that I will confiscate any usage of mobile phone inside the
classroom during my class. I was grateful that they followed my instructions.
There was a homeroom activity for our advisory class on last period every
Friday. This time was a dedicated to talked about any concerns or problems
regarding on every subjects that they take. It was used to apply floor wax and clean
the room as well.
Technological University of the Philippines

FINAL TEACHING DEMONSTRATION EXPERIENCES

My final demonstration was a shocking. It was scheduled eight to nine

o’clock in the morning and I’m really excited and nervous. I bought lots of
chocolates as prizes to be given away for the recitation and rewards for my game
show. Everything was set up and ready when suddenly at exactly 7:45 am Sir Dasig
told me that there will be a power interruption from eight o’clock to one o’clock in
the afternoon.” Seriously? Are you kidding me? on the day and time of my final
demonstration? Oh common!” as I said to my self. I was really disappointed and
about to lose hope. I talked to the property custodian if they can postponed the
power interruption but it was scheduled long before. Suddenly, I posed for a while
and devoted a minute to pray and asked God if I can do something about it. I prayed
that whatever happens, I gave him the full control and cannot do something but to
trust him. I met the principal, Sir Gil Teodoro but prior to that I already informed Mr.
Ramos, our coordinator to postponed my final demonstration but I just scolded by
him that I should prepare a back up plan incase something like this might happen.
He said that he was not sure if when he can accommodate me but most probably I
will be schedule on April for he has lot plans to do this month. I talked to Ms.
Jeniffer Verzosa, BNHS focal person and to the principal what Mr. Ramos said to
me. I’m very grateful that they helped me solved my problem. They run their power
generator just to pursue my final demonstration. They instructed me to call
Mr.Ramos and thank God that he still wiling to attend my demonstration though I
sensed that he was already pissed off. At first, I was really quiet nervous for the
medium I used in discussion was pure English. I started with classroom management
through opening prayer, arranging chairs and checking of attendance. I also
incorporate a game show that we had learned from education technology related to
our topic to warm up the students, this was my motivation. I also made use of
PREZI presentation which was new to the eyes of learners for our discussion. My
biggest “ pasabog” was making use of ICT in my evaluation. I used a mobile
application called pliker which scans the code that I already prepared for them to
Technological University of the Philippines

give their answers. I will post the each question and my mobile phone will scan their
answers that will also tabulate and flash on the screen. The panelist were amazed
with the kind of methodology that I presented. I was grateful that my off campus
final demonstration was very successful with the positive comments of the panelist.
