Bee Model Competition 2019

The Yorkshire Beekeepers Association is running a Bee Model Competition to be judged at

Countryside Days on 11th and 12th June at the Yorkshire Event Centre, Great Yorkshire
Showground, Harrogate.

Schools are invited to make a model with the theme of:

“THROUGH THE KEYHOLE – WHO LIVES IN A HOUSE LIKE THIS?”

To create a cross section of a beehive in order to see what is going on inside.

Some ideas could be:

 Where does the queen live and where does she lay her eggs?
 What are the other bees doing inside the hive? CLUE – nurse bees, cleaning bees etc
 Where do the bees store the pollen?
 Where do the bees store the nectar before they turn it into honey?

It does not have to be too technical and the funnier the better!

The judges will be looking for:

 Originality
 Maximum involvement of children

The model, securely labelled with your school name, should be delivered to the Competition Steward
in reception as you come to Countryside Days. They will be judged on each of the two Countryside
Days. Only one entry per school will be accepted.

The Prizes are:

1st prize of £50 & tickets to the Great Yorkshire Show on Thursday 11th July
2nd prize of £25

The winning models will be displayed in the Bee Pavilion during the Great Yorkshire Show and the
two 1st prize winning schools will be invited along to receive their prizes.

All other models should be collected at the end of the day to be taken back to school.
