National Inter-School Maths

Championships
On Wednesday this week, eight children from Years 5 and
6 participated in the National Inter-School Maths
Championships at Russell House School in Sevenoaks. This
year, we entered two teams:

Team one: Anjola, Hannah, Indie and Melisa

Team two: Danny, David, Demi and Jesse

It was an incredibly intense hour as twelve teams from

Kent schools worked hard under timed conditions to solve
complex problems which would earn them vital points.

It was a very close contest the whole way through.

Towards the end of the quiz, our Year 6 team were in
second position but unfortunately were outperformed in
the final few questions missing out on a place in the top
three. Mr Hardwick, Mr Dickins, Mrs Durkin and the
parents were very proud of the children’s efforts. It was a
thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

National Inter-School General Knowledge Championship

After their tremendous performance during the General Knowledge Championship heats, I am
delighted to inform you that the Bronte School team has been selected to take part in the
National Finals which will be hosted by The National Gallery in Trafalgar Square on 27th June. As
our scores were so good, we will bypass the semi-finals……moving straight to the Final! This is a
fantastic achievement by our team of four boys (Ayrton, Tristan, Jonathan and Freddie), making
everyone at Bronte School extremely proud.

CSI Bronte
On Tuesday Year 6 became Crime Scene Investigators during Bronte's annual
Forensic Science Day. Children (and adults) learned all about the advances in
Forensic Investigation and worked together to trace the perpetrators of 'crimes'
using techniques such as ink chromatography and footprint and fingerprint
analysis.
Thank you very much to Mr Wood for such a fascinating insight.

Sports Day – message from Mr Johnson

This year, in addition to our very popular Tug Of War, I am hoping to include some
parent races.

These will be Hood vs Nelson and will be competed as a Team Relay. If you would
like to take part in these races please email me letting me know which House you
would like to represent:
(luke.johnson@bronteschool.co.uk)

Beware……….full details of what each race entails will not

be available until sports day itself!! PE Kit
Following discussion with Mr J and at
Parent Council meetings recently, we
are investigating a change in our PE
Kit. Any changes would not come
into effect until September 2019,
with a transition period where our
current and new kits are both
acceptable at school.

A possible kit was modelled by two

Year 5 children today. They both
thoroughly approved of the new
tracksuit, tops, skorts and shorts.

information…………..

Sound and Lighting

All children and staff have been
excited to watch the progress of our
new lighting and sound system being
installed in School Hall. It is now
operational and will receive the first
official ‘outing’ during Bronte’s Got
Talent. We are all very grateful to
Bronte Friends for funding this
project.

National Choral
Celebration
It was an early start for Year 6
who travelled to The National
Choral Celebration in
Maidenhead this morning.

This event, set up by the

Independent Schools
Association, gave our children
the opportunity to sing
alongside hundreds of other
children in a joint choir in the
Pearce Suite Theatre.

It was a fantastic experience for

all of them, and if you ask, they
may even sing you a solo from
one of their new pieces.

Mrs Kybert and the Early Years team are still hoping to
collect various items to develop a ‘woodwork’ provision.
They are collecting buttons, beads and plastic bottle tops.
They are also collecting ‘keys’ for storytelling. Any
donations would be very welcome. Please send in to the
office.

Bronte Nursery would also appreciate any donations of

lego, duplo, brio or any picture books in good condition –
again please give in to the office.

Many thanks – hopefully a few cupboards can be cleared

out!!!
