2.1 What changes would have to be made for engineering to be a profession more like medicine
or law?

Most engineers are not self-employed, but more often they are a small part of the larger companies
that involve many different occupations, including accountants, marketing specialists, and large
numbers of less skilled manufacturing employees. Although engineers are paid well compared to
the rest of society, they are generally less well compensated than doctors and lawyers.

The training of engineers is different than for doctors and lawyers. One can be employed as an
engineer after four years of university education, unlike law and medicine, for which training in the
profession does not begin until after the degree has been completed. As mentioned above, the
engineering companies are not as powerful as the AMA and the ABA, perhaps due to the number of
different professional engineering companies.

Engineering does not have the social stature that they are entitled to and medicine (a fact that is
partly reflected in the lowest salary that engineers receive compared to that of lawyers and doctors).
Despite these differences, in the end, engineering is clearly still a profession, even if it is one that is
not as mature as medicine and law. However, the engineering profession should strive to emulate
some of the aspects of these other professions.

2.3 The first part of the definition of a profession says that professions involve the use of
sophisticated skills. Do you think these skills are mainly physical or intellectual skills? Give
examples of professions such as law, medicine and engineering, as well as non-professionals.

If they are the main ones, but also the skills that must be taken into account are the values and
rights of a person, for example, being honest, honest, responsible, punctual, etc. Also other
important skills are working as a team, planning, structuring, meeting goals and objectives; In
addition, know how to talk, talk and inform. All these are abilities that in a profession are considered
in a person, since they recognize him as a hardworking person and that develops with satisfaction
before any activity of his profession.

2.7 Was this case simply a problem of customer relations and public relations, or are there ethical
issues that should also be considered?

The first designs for new chips still have AWS fl, and sometimes these fl AWS is not detected until
the product is already in use by consumers. However, Intel's approach to these problems has
changed. Now it seems that you feel that the problems have to be fixed immediately. In addition,
the decision is now based on the consumer's perception of the significance of aw fl, rather than on
the view of its meaning of Intel.
2.11 Should you replace the defective products, even if the customers will not recognize the
defect?

At first, Intel's response to these reports was to deny that there was no problem with the chip. When
it became clear that this statement is not accurate, Intel changed its policy and stated that, although
there has indeed been a defect in the chip, it could not be insignificant and the vast majority of users
would not even notice.

Over time, the damage caused by this case was fi xed as media reports of the problem calmed down
and as customers were able to receive the unflawed chips on their computers. Ultimately, Intel had
a $ 475 million cancellation to solve this problem.

2.16 What responsibilities did the engineers who were aware of the flaw have before the chip was
sold? After the chips began to be sold? After the flaw became apparent?

The engineers had a lot of guilt because if they were employed because they had to go through the
respective tests for which they were valued to know if it goes on the market, although they said
they would change for those who need it with that They say they had an idea of the error that
happened to them, but for some process where the number of digits required for some application
would have caused many abnormalities to damages, in addition to the fact that the company as a
name was left wrong.

2.19 Who is responsible for ensuring that the materials used in a project meet the specifications?
The supplier or the purchaser?

The responsible for the product to have all the standards that guarantee its commercialization is the
producer, but the fault also lies with the supplier since he must also in some way guarantee that the
product meets the market standards necessary for the consumer pay what you are looking for
without leaving aside that all this depends on supply and demand as this marks the quality of it
according to the market you intend to enter or arrive.

2.23 Once the Paradyne machine failed the initial test, should the requirements have been relaxed
to help the machine qualify? If the requirements were going to be modified, should the bidding
process have been reopened to the other bidders and others who might now be able to bid?
Should bidding be reopened even if it causes a delay in delivery, increased work for the SSA, etc.?

It isn’t really because if this fails from the beginning the machine clearly indicates that it should not
go to the market because without these standards many things would be flexible so that it could
not be guaranteed that it has a guarantee of functionality.
You should not consider not being so strict about things that are going to be commercialized because
people have faith about them.
The opening of a tender is not bad because it makes people who could offer something of better
quality and with a guarantee to participate since the person involved at the beginning of the
machine failed, in our case in the city of Cuenca we have the example of the company that built the
tram.
If a tender should be opened again, even if this implies more work and time for the social security
administration since they have foreseen these types of eventualities within their schedules. Since
above all is the power to offer machines with quality standards and that do not harm society itself.

6.1 An engineer leaves a company and goes to work for a competitor.

(a) Is it ethical for the engineer to try to lure customers away from the previous employer?
It is not ethical for the engineer to try to move away since the clients must choose and decide for
themselves.

(b)Is it alright for the engineer to use proprietary knowledge gained while working for the previous
employer at the new job? How would the answer to this question change if the new job weren’t
for a competitor?

If you can use the knowledge obtained since it allows us to solve things.
If you do not work for a competitor, you would also use the knowledge acquired since the
knowledge obtained stays with us since that is why we are trained to improve our work and be more
productive, although this at a moment has repercussions for them

(c) At the new job, is it acceptable for the engineer to use skills developed during his previous
employment?

If that's why the new company hires us because we have skills that make us improve the productivity
of the company where we enter to work.

6.6 When pointing out safety problems, an engineer is rightfully concerned about maintaining his
job. However, how effective is an anonymous memo? Can anyone be expected to pay attention
to something that a person won’t sign?

An anonymous note creates doubts about the events that are taking place, maybe it is not so real
or true, but it can open investigations to get rid of the doubt in some cases; If it is not signed by
someone maybe it is not very credible, but it does create suspicion.
6.14 There are many reasons why designs for safety critical structures should be saved and made
available for subsequent work such as renovations, maintenance, etc. Who should be responsible
for keeping the design documents?
Who should have access to them?

Those responsible for preserving the design documents are the general managers of the structure
and administrative staff since they are in charge of supervising all the structural design. The access
should have all that they need to carry out an audit so everything has to be good and It can be
supervised by people who are really trained.
6.17 Was an unethical act taking place when test results on the brake were falsify ed?

If there was an anti-ethical act because when the results were obtained, negative results were
obtained and at the time of the report, distortions and undue changes were made in the results.
6.24 Engineers are always constrained by budget. What responsibility does an engineer have
regarding the design of safe structures in places like Haiti where funds are not available to
engineer structures to standards common in more developed nations? How does an engineer
ethically develop a design when the budget is so severely constrained?

The responsibility of an Engineer in these cases should always see the priority of the resistance
limited to the budget, but if it is no longer design parameters within a safety factor and still risk
doing so would be acting in an anti-competitive manner. -ethics. An Engineer develops a design
ethically when it is projected to not fail despite the limited Budget.

6.26 What aspects of a corporate ethics and safety culture did Toyota seem to lack in these
cases?

Toyota engineers and management often reacted very slowly to reports of safety issues in
their automobiles, and in many cases made design changes without notifying customers
about problems related to vehicles that were already on the road

6.30 How does an engineer ensure that the software he is using is applicable to the problem he’s
working on?

calculating the expected stresses would otherwise be a time-consuming and tedious

process.

C. What do you think is the Identity of the UPS Professional Regarding Professional, Family and
Social Sense of the Profession?

Mainly to be a professional and a Christian that does good for the people looking to create a solution
motivated more from the ethical point than for making a good profit. Also developing science as the
tool for mankind to increase comfort and also reduce stress from daily tasks that can be upgraded.
