Homework 6

Please refer to Ch-6 in your textbook and answer the following Problems:

page 244: 8, 9, 10

Itotal A= 15V/(R1R4)/R1+R4

= 15/729.729

=20.14mA

Itotal B= 15V/(R1R3)/R1+R3

= 15V/687.5

= 21.8mA

Itotal C=15V/(R1R2)/R1+R2

=15V/642.857

=23.33mA
9. The following currents are measured in the same direction in a three-branch parallel circuit:
250 mA, 300 mA, and 800 mA. What is the value of the current into the junction of these three
branches?

Itotal=250mA + 300mA + 800mA

= 1.35A

10. There is a total of 500 mA of current into five parallel resistors. The currents through four of
the resistors are 50 mA, 150 mA, 25 mA, and 100 mA. What is the current through the fifth
resistor?
I5=500mA-50mA-150mA-25mA-100mA
I5=175mA

page 245: 16, 17, 20, 22

(a) RT=R1R2/R1+R2=560(220)/560+220=157.94 Ω
(b) RT=R1R2/R1+R2=27k(56k)/27k+56k= 18.2KΩ
(c) RT=R1R2/R1+R2=1.5k(2.2k)/1.5k+2.2k=891.89Ω

17. What is the total resistance of twelve 6.8 kΩ resistors in parallel?

RT= Rn= 6.8k(12)=81.6k ohms
Rt= 389.2 R2= R1 Rtotal/R1-Rtotal= 680(389.2)/680-389.2=910 ohms
R1=680
R2=?

(a) RT=1/1/R1 +1/1/R2 + 1/1/R3= 10.24

(b) RT=1/1/R1 +1/1/R2 + 1/1/R3=333.50
