Acoustical Analysis

1. Sound characteristic
o The intensity of the sound depends on the temperature; so, during night time it
travels slower.
o The wind affects the direction of the sound and causes the sound to pass through
the Jubilee building and the Community Centre.
2. Noise sources
o Traffic Noise (Jacinto Street)
 During the day, the vehicles and the pedestrians from the adjacent street
produces more unwanted noise than in night time.
o Users (Students with activities)
 Students and their activities produces sound especially when there is a
program.
o Rainfall
 During rainfall, the raindrops hit the roof and it produces a loud noise.
3. Acoustical defects
o Flutter Echo’s
 The sound echo’s because the distance that it bounces is far.
o Lack of absorptive treatment
 The hall has no absorptive materials, and all are reflective material with
hard surface.
o Long reverberation time
 The hall produces long reverberation time because of the solid materials
that surrounds the hall.
4. Materials used
o Wide area of reflective floor (Concrete rubberized floor)
 The floor is flat and rigid with a lot of mass, so the sound bounces of the
surface. The sound waves can’t penetrate the surface, the wave is turned
back and the sound bouncing back creates echo.
o Reflective panel boards each mezzanine floor
 The panel boards each mezzanine floor reflects the sound within the hall.
o Concaved Roof
 When sound is produced anywhere in the hall, the sound concentrates at
any point when it bounces.
5. Sound amplification

The sound amplifiers present are woofer, tweeter, and mixers.

Recommendations

1. Application of absorptive materials

a. Installing hanging acoustical baffles below the ceilings to reduce the reverberation
and distribution of noise below.
b. Applying insulating foams on open ceiling to reduce sound noise impact from the
roof.
c. Installing 12.5 mm Acoustic plaster on plaster backing over 7.5 mm air space for
the sound absorption on the area.
