Our gracious and a loving Father , thank you Lord for everything for another day and beautiful

day You have given to us, this day we gonna claim your Goodness, faithfulness, and mercy to us,

as we do our report today Lord we ask Your presence to guide and lead us that every word and

reporters comes our mouth comes from you because we are nothing without You.

We ask Lord to Open the heart and mind of the lesseners today, continue to bless them together with

our Instructor Mr. Leonoro Quilang we declare more blessing comes upon thier life together with

her family and also I pray divine strenght and divine protection everyday in his life , continue to

bless his finances and work .

Give to us the wisdom to know the meaning and purpose of our life and learning, so that our

knowledge, understanding, and skills may help in some little ways to make this world a better place,

for your greater glory.

Today Lord we submit all our plans and decision please guide as everyday to our work, studies our

business and also with our family we offer everyday our life to you Lord and we expect our prayer

today that you have already answer Lord We believe and we gonna claim it, Thank you and we

We would like to express our deepest appreciation to all those who provide us the possibility to

complete this report. This assignment cannot be completed without the effort and cooperation from

our group members Aninloy, Pinky Rose, Garduque, Isofel and Rivera, Jeselyn.

We also sincerely thank our instructor of Rizal’s Work and Life Mr. Leonoro Quilang for the

guidance and encouragement in finishing this assignment and also for teaching us in this subject.

Nobody has been more important to us in pursuing this report than the members of our families. We

would like to thank our parents, whose love and guidance are with us whatever we are pursuing and

for their unending support .They are the ultimate role models.

Lastly, we would like to thank our most gracious heavenly father who is always their beside us to

guide everything we did to make this report a successful one.


INTRODUCTION

This report provides information about Jose Rizal finished his medical course in the University of

Santo Thomas. Then he decided to complete his studies in Spain due to the radical prejudice

Dominican Professors against Filipino Students. Aside from this ostensible reason, he had a ‘Secret

Mission’ which was more important than finishing his studies.

This report will make you know about the poems he made as he was far away from his love ones.

Everything he wrote is about his family, his country and about the situation he had facing during his

stay in a place where he studies at.

This report provides the information about the place where Rizal go and the situation he had during

that time. As he go to other places in Spain he experience a lot of things that is about relate to the

course he taking up.


DISCUSSION

This report provide the information about the life of Jose Rizal during the time he was in Spain. His life there

is not that easy for him because his family and love ones is far away from him. And because of that he wrote

poem to express his feelings. And after his departure to Spain, the things turned worse in Calamba due to

hard time in Calamba, the monthly allowances of Rizal in Madrid were late arrival and there times they were

never arrived.

After his medical studies at the UST, disgusted with the ANTIQUATED method of instruction, and

racial prejudiced by the Dominican Professors, Rizal decided to complete his studies in Spain at that

time the GOVERNMENT OF SPAIN WAS A CONSTITUIONAL MONARCHY, with written

constitution, human rights guarantee (freedom of SPEECH, PRESS and ASSEMBLY) another reason,

which was more important than merely completing his studies in Spain This “secret mission” was

not mentioned by AUSTIN CRAIG and WENCESLAO RETANA ,Rizal’s biographers.


SUMMARY

Jose Rizal finished his medical course in the University of Santo Tomas. Then he decided to

complete his studies in Spain due to the radical prejudice of Dominican Professors against Filipino

Students. Aside from this ostensible reason, he had a Secret Mission” which was more important

than finishing his studies. Rizal’s Secret Mission. The secret mission of Rizal is to observe keenly

the life and culture, languages and customs, industries and commerce, and government laws

of European nation in order to prepare himself in the mighty task of liberating his fellow-men.

The departure of Rizal was kept secret to avoid the detection by the Spanish authorities and the friars,

even his own parents. The Jesuit priests gave him letters of recommendation to the members of their

Society in Barcelona. On May3, 1882, Rizal departed on board the Spanish steamer. Salvadora

bound for Singapore. Donato Lecha, from Asturias, Spain, befriend him. On May 9, 1882, the Ship

docked at Singapore. Rizal landed, registered at the Hotel de la Paz, and spent two days for

sightseeing; there he saw the statue of Sir Thomas Stanford Raffles (founder of Singapore).

From Singapore to Colombo Rizal transferred to ship Djemnah and he left to Europe on May 11.
First Trip through Suez Canal, from Colombo - Indian Oceanto the cape of Guardafui, africa, and

then a stopover on Aden.From Aden- City of Suez (Red Sea Terminal of the Suez Canal).

Djemnah- a French Streamer; Sailed to Europe May 26 he saw the coast of Africa he called this

as“An Inhospital Landbuy Famous”. Aden hotter than the Philippines he saw Camels and Arabian

horses. June 2 he arrived at the city of Suez. Suez Canal a historic waterway contructed by: Engr.

Ferdinand De Lesseps Naples and Marseilles on June 11 – Rizal reached Naples, an Italian city Rizal

was fascinated by Mount Vesuvius and Castle Of St. Telmo. He visited CHATEAU D’lf, where

Dantes, hero of the Count of Monte Cristo was imprisoned. Rizal stayed for 2 ½ days in Marsielles.
May 16, 1882 he reached Barcelona; the greatest city of Cataluña and Spain’s 2nd largest city LAM

RAMBLAS famous street in Barcelona Plaza De Cataluña – welcome party for Rizal was made by

Rizal’s schoolmates at Ateneo. Amor Patrio he wrote it in Barcelona; this is a nationalistic essay

written in Spanish soil under the pseudonym of Dimas Alang Published in two text Spanish Rizal

Filipino –M.H. del Pilar Diaryong Tagalog – first Manila bilingual newspaper , Francisco Calvo

editor of DiaryongTagalog; member of editorial staff and Two Pen Names Used By Rizal Dimas

because of an absence of a loved one.

Life In Madrid he enrolled at Universidad Central De Madrid (Central University of Madrid) 2

courses enrolled (Medicine, Philosophy & Letters) Took lessons at the Academy of San Carlos

(Painting & Sculpture)He also took private lessons in (German, French & English).

Romance with Consuela Ortiga y Perez on August 22, 1883 he expresses his admiration; he made a

poem entitled “A La Señiorita C.O. y P.”. The Romance didn’t blossom because of

two reasons- Engage to Leonora Rivera- Eduardo de Lete (his friend) is madly in love with Consuelo.

They Ask me For Verses Rizal joined the Circulo Hispano-Filipino (Hispano-Philippine Circle).

Upon the request of the members, Rizal wrote a poem entitled, Mi Piden Versos, he declaimed it

during New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1882. Rizal as Lover of Books a favorite past time of Rizal

in Madrid was reading. Rizal economized on his living expenses, he purchase books from a second-

hand book store. Rizal’s was deeply affected by Uncle Tom’s Cabin and the Wandering Jew. Rizal’s

First Visit to Paris (1883) His first summer vacation to Paris, France, June 17 to August 20, 1883
and he live at cheap hotel on 124 Rue de Rennes in Latin Quarter. Like all tourist, Rizal was amazed

on the beautiful sceneries of Paris. Rizal is an unordinary tourist because he was observing the life

and culture of French; he was spending time on museums. Rizal as a Mason In Spain Rizal came

close to with Masons including Miguel Morayta ,Francisco Pi y Margal, Manuel Bacerra, Emilio

Junoy, and Juan Ruiz Zorilla. Rizal was impressed by the Spanish Masons, and he joined Masonic

lodge called Acacia in Madrid. Later he transferred to Lodge Solidaridad (Madrid), were he became

a Master Mason on November 15, 1890, he was awarded the diploma of Master Mason on February

15, 1892.After Rizal’s departure to Spain, the things turned worse in Calamba Due to hard time in

Calamba, the monthly allowances of Rizal in Madrid were late in arrival and there were times they

were never arrived. On June 24, 1884, a touching incident to Rizal’s life; he was empty stomach that

day but he still attended to his classes and events.

Rizal’s Salute to Luna and Hidalgo Banquet on June 25, 1884, Rizal salute to Luna and Hidalgo’s

victory on the National Exposition of Fine Arts in Madrid, Luna’s Spoliarium winning first prize

and Hidalgo’s Christian Virgins Exposed to the Populace, second price. Rizal Involved in Student

Demonstration on November 20, 21, and 22, 1884, a riot was exploded on the Central University

due to excommunicated of Dr. Morayta. The riot was participated by lots of students including

Filipino students. The appointment of the new Rector intensified the fury of the student

demonstrators. More student demonstrations convulsed the city.

Studies Completed in Spain Rizal completed his medical course in Spain in June 21, 1884. Due to

not presenting the thesis required and corresponding fees, he was not awarded his doctor’s diploma.

Rizal also finished his studies in Philosophy and Letter. He was awarded the degree of Licentiate in

Philosophy and letters on June 19, 1885, with rating of Excellent.
