At the end of the period, the student will:

VALUE FOCUS a. appreciate the importance of media in our society and how it helps
us in our everyday lives

c. understand that values should always be part of our lives and not
just stick into the art of making videos

PERFORMANCE FOCUS a. analyze, evaluate and filter in their minds the information our
media offers
b. organize and classify the different forms of media which can be
used to secure relevant information
c. acquire relevant information and use modern-day tools to get,
manage, apply, evaluate, create and communicate information

MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT Textbook (Media and Information Literacy) by Christine Magpile, videos of


advertisements (or videos made by cinemaskwela students) kwentong Jol-
libee—the vow, Thai Life Insurance, Interview of Paula Salvosa (Amalayer),
MTV of Eminem “cleaning my closet”, Two and Two short film

UNLOCKING: Exploration/Motivation/Opening Approx. 80 mins.


1. Ask the students, “what comes into your mind when you hear the
word media? What are the functions of media and how important it
PROCEDURE is for us to use it in order to acquire information?
2. Show the videos (commercials or cinemaskwela videos) and ask
them what functions of media do the videos show and what are the
lessons that we can get from the videos
3. Show a different approach of commercials using Kwentong Jollibee
and Thai Life Insurance. Ask them about the values that it shows the
audience. Compare and contrast the commercials (30seconder and
short film commercials)

UNPACKING: Explanation/Discussion/Process- Approx. 110 mins

1. Show the students the MTV of Eminem and Interview of Paula
Salvosa (Amalayer). Ask them if they have experienced to be bashed
or if they have bashed someone online.
2. Let them group into five members and discuss the good and bad in-
fluence of media in the society and how it affects the way a person
lives, communicate and think. Allow each group to have a reporter
of what they have discussed in a group
3. Let them process the importance of media, information and technol-
ogy literacy through those videos

PROCEDURE UPGRADING: Expansion/Practice/Application Approx. 120 mins.

1. Briefly discuss to them that media, information and technology liter-


acy are three things that usually come together and show them the
importance of evaluating and discerning the right from wrong
2. Let them watch the short film “Two and Two”
3. Divide the class into groups of five and let them discuss the meaning
of the short film. Don’t let them report what they have discussed in
the group but ask them to bring art materials for the next meeting

UNIFYING: Evaluation/Synthesis/Assignment Approx.110 mins.

1. Ask the students to draw, paint or make an artistic work that will
symbolize the things that they have learned from the short film
2. Let them report and tell the meaning of what they have made and
why did they choose those symbolisms. Allow them to grade their
classmates based on the rubrics on page 235 (poster making)
3. Discuss the Creators of media and information and the characteris-
tics of a good media practitioner
4. Let them answer the questions on pages 12-14
